Reporting to the Manager Community Services, you will play a crucial leadership role in managing the operations and forward planning of Council’s expanding Library Services, with a focus on ensuring the recreational, educational and cultural needs of our community are met.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate their competency for the position by meeting the following essential criteria:

  • Degree qualifications in Bachelor of Arts – Library and Information Science or similar.
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage a team of professionals, particularly through challenges and change.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of budgets and determining financial targets.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate strategic directions, ideas and innovations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and extensive experience in, delivering high quality customer service in a Library context.

We are offering a gross salary of $97,537 to $103,141 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, and:

Our libraries are places of social inclusion where members of our community borrow items for leisure and lifelong learning, learn about new technology, participate in activities, attend children’s and adults’ programs, and carry out study and research for school assignments or business projects. About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative and motivated professional with strong STEM programming and supervision skills to play a key role in the development, promotion, and delivery of STEM programming at West Ryde library. In this newly created role, you will use your experience to develop a range of STEM based programs for West Ryde Library with a focus on emerging technologies and digital literacy.

As a senior member of the team this role also provides support to the Team Leader in regard to supervising staff as well as a variety of tasks which range from assisting customers with library technology, Reader Advisory services, leading children’s activities such as rhyme-time and after school activities and maintaining a safe, neat, welcoming library. 

About You

You will have exceptional customer service skills and enthusiasm to help our diverse range of public library users whether it be finding a book or troubleshooting technology as well as experience in creating and presenting STEM programs. 

In addition, you will also have:

  • Diploma of Library and Information Services or equivalent library technician qualification or university degree in a relevant discipline with additional TAFE qualification in Library and Information Services recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • Experience in providing a range of STEM and digital literacy programs for libraries or related institutions
  • Experience in supervising staff
  • Exceptional teamwork skills with proven experience to also work independently
  • Adaptable approach to tasks with the ability to prioritise and multi-task
  • Experience in conducting early literacy activities and programs for children
  • An enthusiasm for technology and the ability to assist customers in the use of library technologies such as printing, scanning, use of online resources and apps

Your commencing annual salary will range from $66,841 to $73,059 + Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.

We are currently seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Library Technician to join our Libraries Team on a casual basis.

Your daily responsibilities will be: 

  • Provide excellent friendly, approachable and efficient customer focused circulation service such as returns, loans, memberships, overdue queries, payment handling and branch deliveries.
  • Ability to work across all branches including some weekend work
  • Advise and assist library members to effectively search the library catalogue, Internet and other electronic resources
  • Have a good knowledge of Indigo’s collection and online resources and an awareness of Libraries Victoria resources.
  • Actively promote information literacy and library services
