After renting six different beach houses in Pambula Beach we can tell you what makes them good and bad, and what the key choices are that you need to make.
The first thing is that there are two views in Pambula Beach. One is to the north, which takes in the long arch of surf beach and the twinkling lights of Merimbula at night. This is a great view, but keep in mind that in the summer the afternoon winds are very strong, and the deck can be unpleasant.
The other view is to the east, taking in the National Park of Haycock Point. It is a view utterly devoid of human interference. The morning sun rises behind the point in summer, and over the ocean in winter. In the afternoon the light plays on the rocks of the point making beautiful colours. That’s the view from the Pambula Beach House.
But one thing we didn’t like was having to look through power lines for our whole visit. Houses on the high side of Coraki and Weemilah all suffer from this annoyance.
The second thing we’d look for is that abilty to wash the sand off before going into the house. The Pambula Family Beach House has a lovely hot outdoor shower in the backyard.
Thirdly, ask yourself how many hours you’ll be able to spend on the deck. Are the chairs comfortable? Is the balustrade windproof? Is there some shade? This affordable beach house rental has a super comfy lounge suite on the deck, a glass front AND a roof to keep it temperate for as much of the time as possible.
Fourth, what’s the view like from IN bed? This holiday house in Pambula Beach has a great view and lots of cushions – a source of some great moments of complete tranquility. Priceless.
…and finally there’s the fire. Is there anything better than a real fire at a beach house? This Pambula Beach House has a big warm fire and plenty of dry wood to put in it. If you stay in spring or autumn you might get some evenings cool enough to use it. In winter, you can have it on all day. When your kids pull the bean bags up and read a book in front of the fire instead of watching TV you’ll know they’re making the memories of a lifetime.
WHAT’S IN THE HOUSE?
The house sleeps seven in three bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a king sized bed and a magnificent view. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed and looks onto the garden. The kids bedroom has a bunk bed plus a roll out trundle underneath, so it sleeps three.
There is a bathroom and a powder room, plus of course the outside shower that the kids seem to prefer.
The living/dining has two very comfortable couches around the TV/DVD which seat five, plus a two seater that looks out to sea. There are also two armchairs in front of the fire. Who knows why the kids always want the beanbags instead?
The dining table is a magnificent 70s creation which was put together from a single rainforest trunk. Neither the table nor the eight chairs use any nails in their construction.
The kitchen is new. Induction cooker, big fridge, plenty of benchspace and double sink.
The deck is more than 30 square meters and has a big spotted gum table, eight chairs, plus an outdoor lounge. There is a four burner BBQ with a nice strong light overhead so you can see what you’re cooking.
