I’m an innovator, educator and technologist, whose research and teaching focuses on how to most effectively utilise emerging technologies in schools and universities.

My vision

My vision is that every learner in every school and university has access to the best, evidence-based uses of technology that improve learning outcomes and experiences.

Research

I have published over 100 peer-reviewed journal article and conference papers relating to the innovative use of technology in education. My work has been cited over 8000 times according to Google Scholar. The 2023 Elsevier-Stanford list of Top-Cited Scientists, placed me in the top 0.25% of most cited Education researchers in the world. My research is now concentrating on how Generative AI can be most effectively used in schools and universities.

Presentations and Professional Learning

I am regularly invited to deliver national and international keynote, invited speaker and panel presentations to help advance educator use of innovative technologies. See my presentations page for a list of over 50 selected presentations.

Learning and Teaching

Day-to-day, I lead the teaching of the Technologies subjects in the School of Education at Macquarie University. I have won numerous awards for my teaching, including an Australian Award for University Teaching Excellence.

Leadership

I assume numerous leadership roles, including Chair of the Australian Technologies Teacher Education Network, Academic Expert on the NSW Educational Standards Authority Technologies Advisory Group, and Chair of Macquarie University’s Senate Learning and Teaching Committee.

I am often called upon for expert comment by national and international media outlets. For instance, I recently appeared on the Channel 7 Sunrise program regarding the use of Generative AI in Education.
