The Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get my book signed?

The easiest way to get your book signed, is to attend an event. We have a regularly updated list of book events here. We're also experimenting with a service for signed copies of Afrikaans and English books with Stellenbosch Books. You can reach them at +27 (0)21 882 6754, or stellenboschbooks@gmail.com to place your order. Regretfully, other language translations are not available through this service.

Where can I buy Deon's books?

Please support your local bookstore - they can order a book in a flash. If you don't have access to a local bookstore, you can order traditional books or e-books from all Internet booksellers, including the appropriate Amazon on-line store for your country, or Apple's iBook store. In South Africa, please try Graffiti, The Book Lounge, Wordsworth, Exclusive Books, Bargain Books, Takealot, Reader's Warehouse, or Loot. Audio books available from Audible, W.F. Howes, Apple Audiobooks and more.

Deon's guide to dual-purpose motorcycle riding Dirt Busters (Afrikaans title: Ridders van die Grondpad) is no longer available as a hard copy, but you can order the e-book at Snapplify, at Amazon, or Kobo.

Advice for writers?

The more you do it, the better you become. Nothing improves your writing more than just sitting down and doing it. And read, read, read. Explore the genre you plan to write in. Study and analyze what the really good authors are doing, and how they are doing it. Oh, and to quote thriller author Michael Ridpath: Have fun.

What does Deon read?

He reads everything - from J.M. Coetzee to William Gibson, Michael Connelly, Robert Harris, Ian Rankin, Lee Child, Stephen King, Michael Ridpath, John Sandford, George P. Pelecanos, Douglas Kennedy, Mark Bowden, Anthony Beevor, to name but a few ... And the great masters: John D. MacDonald, Ed McBain, John le Carré, Frederick Forsyth, Ted Allbeury, Robert B. Parker ... He can't get enough of Stephen Pinker, love biographies, history, science and travel writing. And he's a news junkie.

Will he write my story?

Deon says making up his own stories is too much fun. So thanks, but no, thanks.

Will he read my work?

Unfortunately, he gets so many similar requests that he simply does not have the time.

In what order should I read his books?

It is more fun to read them in the order they were written, but it's not essential.
