NSW GC Open Singles

East Fremantle GC Women’s Singles

On Thursday 11 April 2024 East Fremantle Croquet Club in perfect weather held its GC Women’s Singles Club Championship. Thirteen members competed in the tournament with Kerry Loane winning the Final 7-4 against Megan Fardon.

I believe this is the 4th consecutive win for Kerry in this event.

Coaching and Introductory Sessions Continue

Quite a few introductory sessions are already well underway eg Cambridge, Forrest Park and now Nedlands, but if anyone is thinking about experiencing our great game, please don’t hesitate to contact your local club. They’ll make you most welcome and will have you enjoying yourself in no time.

I read this comment on the Nedlands Facebook page after a recent session:

My husband and I were amongst the new players today and we had a ball. It was our first try at croquet and we’re hooked. It’s so much fun and more strategic than we would have thought. The World Croquet Federation has announced the ranked players for the upcoming GC World Championships in Chesapeake Bay, Virginia.

150 entries were received for the 80 player event with the WCF Management Committee allocating the following places:

• Ranking Places = 37
• Wild Cards = 2
• Membership Places = 37
• Qualifiers = 4

Congratulations to the following Australian players who have been awarded a ranking place:

• Robert Fletcher
• Malcolm Fletcher
• Jamie Gumbrell

In addition to these players, Addison Matthews (Australia) along with Adam Barr (Cananda) have been awarded Wild Card Places.

Yesterday, Marty was at Bayswater running an Introduction to AC session. It was fantastic to see so many players particpating and importantly, taking the opportunity of learning new skills.

There was a wide cross section of clubs represented too with members from; Bayswater, Sorrento, Como, East Fremantle, Forrest Park, Cambridge and Drakesbrook.
