Eucalyptus polybractea Blue Mallee is a lovely small to large mallee from central Victoria north east from Bendigo to Charlton. Beautiful 4m examples were covered in flowers at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne on the weekend. It should be more widely grown – covered in bees. There has been a major botanical revision of Leptospermum, which has been split into a number of new Genera. For example Leptospermum laevigatum – your coast tea tree is now Gaudium laevigatum. There is a simple translation table published on iNaturalist at the link below. The revised taxonomy of the tribe Leptospermeae (Myrtaceae) is based on morphological and DNA data by Peter Wilson and Margaret Heslewood. There are links to their paper here as well. I’m hoping we can see the differences without carrying a mobile DNA lab around. www.inaturalist.org/journal/thebeachcomber/92741-major-changes-to-leptospermeae See MoreSee Less
