April R. Silver is a social entrepreneur and writer. She is also the founder of AKILA WORKSONGS, a communications, marketing, and management company founded in 1993. She’s highly regarded for her holistic, uncommon approach to service and leadership. Over the years, the roster has included clients and partners ranging from the late Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Danny Glover to Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Sister Souljah, Doug E. Fresh, KRS-One, and Dee Barnes. In 2023, Silver was invited to become a faculty member at SUNY Old Westbury and taught the university’s first-ever hip hop and social justice class.

As a writer and editor, Silver has been published in the NY Daily News, Word.Beats.Life, and many anthologies and blogs. Her first book, Be a Father to Your Child, is a “powerful and groundbreaking anthology” (HuffPost Black Voices). She is currently working on an anthology on Black women artists, activists, and healers, as well as her memoir.
