Marlu is a family run agricultural enterprise in three areas in the Southern Wimmera of 3240ha. The first being at 1550ha in Lubeck, which is a grain and poll merino sheep farm. The second being 850ha in Dadswells Bridge, where we have occasional cropping and merinos breeding first cross sheep. Finally we have a 840ha property at Mt Dryden where our retained first cross ewes are mated to white suffolks as a terminal lamb system.
Our merino breeding objectives are:
  • breeding only polls
  • fertility using only twin rams
  • selecting our studs for eye muscle and yearling fat
  • wool quality and quantity, selecting for low standard deviation and coefficiant of variation
Marlu grows canola, monola, wheat, barley and faba beans over 800ha with 2000 tonnes of on farm storage.
At the end of our cropping phase all paddocks are sown to pasture. Our pasture consists of lucerne, phalaris, fescue, cocksfoot, clover, chickory and messina. The composition varies with the soil type being sown.
