ImaginOZ InfoTech: Supporting Free software in Mount Gambier and the Southeast of South Australia

At ImaginOZ InfoTech, our core business is creating, promoting, and supporting software that has been licensed under the GPL and other similar licenses for Home, Business and Education.

Established in 2009, Our technical support people have been writing and supporting Libre software and building on other open technologies for many years before starting this venture. We believe that it's past time that enterprise and home users alike were given the option to receive quality, professional onsite or offsite support for the Open/Free/Libre applications they use on their servers and desktops.

Based in Mount Gambier, in the South-east of South Australia (420km south east of Adelaide), we currently limit our onsite support to within 100km of this city. For those further afield, we can offer support via Phone, Email, Jabber realtime chat or other method.

Our experienced personnel can provide support and enhancements to existing software that has been licensed with a Free Software Foundation approved license, inexpensively, with each improvement going back to the community. With extensive experience in a vast range of Open and GPL'd applications and operating systems, we can assist you in retaining the inherent cost benefits of Free software whilst increasing workflow.

For businesses that haven't yet switched over to Free Software alternatives from their existing proprietary software, we can provide a list of alternatives that match functionality and usability, and provide training and ongoing support where necessary.

Why Free Software?

Free Software offers the freedom to run the program for any purpose. Free Software provides the freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs. Free Software is freely distributable - you can legally offer it to your family, friends and business associates, and install it on as many machines as you wish. Free Software also offers you the unique opportunity to improve the software and redistribute those improvements. Free software utilizes a transparent method of software development which has peer-review as one of it's many benefits, with zero vendor lock-in as another. With the opensource transparency of process comes fast bug and security fixes due at least in part to it's many-eyed approach. For more information regarding Free Software, see the Free Software Foundation.

Along with our commitment to Open Technologies in Home and Business, we support and encourage the use of Free Software in Education. The teaching of skill sets rather than applications and utilising Free software in the classroom offers many benefits to the Education Sector. At ImaginOZ InfoTech, we believe that using and advocating the use of Free, Open applications in schools is a key way to keep education a level playing field. Schools that advocate and supply Free Software to their students can offer all students a superior skillbase regardless of financial background, whilst encouraging an ethical alternative to piracy and proprietary software.

If you are a school looking for ways to utilize Free Software, please let us know. We'll be happy to put you in touch with Educators and others with extensive experience with Free Software in education.
