BREAKING NEWS 23rd Nov:

Face-to-face church starts up again this Sunday 29th Nov.

After a false start 2 weeks ago, we can meet at Ian & Mel’s 10.30am-12ish. Can’t wait to see you all again.

We want to be as COVID-safe as possible, so please bring your masks. But if you are feeling unwell, please stay home; we don’t want to put anyone at risk.

The service will conclude with COVID-safe Communion.

City Edge Church will be gathering OUTDOORS tomorrow morning Sun 15th Nov.

We’ll meet at the same time 10:30am at Napier Park Reserve, 1000 High St Rd, Glen Waverley. The entrance to the reserve is just near the Dandenong Creek bridge. It’s just around the corner from our house where we had planned to meet originally.

Look for the City Edge banners and signs on the way in.

It should be a reasonably brief meeting, with only the Psalm reading, sermon, Communion, and of course, fellowship afterwards.

We know how much you have been looking forward to catching up with each other, but unfortunately, we’ve just discovered that church services held in private homes are subject to the same restrictions as private gatherings, so no more than 2 people. Hopefully, even this will ease in coming weeks.

Rather than cancel the meeting, we’ve decided to meet in a park, where we can have up to 50 people gathering safely. We’ve scouted out the location, and there are plenty of shady, grassed areas where we can meet.

Please bring some fold-up chairs or a picnic blanket with you. And of course, your lunch and drinks. We’ll have bottles of water available for everyone.

And there are plenty of trails to walk and bike paths leading off from there, including to Jells Park.

Look forward to seeing you all.

Ian & Mel

CORONAVIRUS – Important announcement as of 8th Nov, 2020

As of this coming week, 15th Nov, we are re-commencing face-to-face church – being careful to be COVID-safe, of course.

More details to follow this week.

CORONAVIRUS – Important announcement as of 21st March, 2020

Effective immediately, ALL City Edge Church gatherings are suspended until it is deemed safe to gather together again.
This applies to Sunday morning meetings, and mid-week meetings.

Instead, we are conducting our Sunday services at 10.30am via Zoom, as well as our mid-week meetings. For more information, or for Zoom meeting details so you can check us out, contact Ian Gould on 0490 946 655 or cityedgechurch@gmail.com.

For a more detailed video explaining our decision, go here: City Edge Church COVID19 update

Should anyone have needs – practical needs, health issues or spiritual needs – please feel free to contact us.
We can make no promises, but if we are able to help, we will.

Be wise, stay safe, and keep your heart fixed on Christ Jesus, our Lord.

CORONAVIRUS – Important announcement as of 13th March, 2020

As a church, we are not affected by the restrictions on gatherings of 500 people or more people. So we will continue to meet together weekly on Sunday mornings, and at mid-week meetings. However, the situation is continually changing, so we will monitor events as they develop.

There is a lot of uncertainty in our community. There is even fear, as evidenced by the extreme panic-buying of supplies and groceries. Yet we remain certain of God’s steadfast presence. Please join with us in praying for those who are affected by this illness, and support one another during this season that we find ourselves in. While we are not sure how long this season will last, our confidence is in Jesus and we’re thankful for the loving community that we are privileged to be a part of.

Isaiah 8:11-14

‘The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. He will keep you safe. But to Israel and Judah he will be a stone that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.’

Regarding the Sunday meeting:

Hygiene – We will be sanitising surfaces before and after the service. Doors, handles, tables, toys, etc will be sanitised. Our team will be asked to wash their hands frequently, or to stay home if they are sick.

Illness – If you or any of your household are feeling unwell, with symptoms of fever, flu-like symptoms and shortness of breath, we would ask you to let us know so we can be praying for you but also please stay at home. For more information regarding the virus go to www.health.gov.au

Greeting people – During this time we’d ask you to be sensitive to others when you greet people. There may be people in our congregation who are currently unwell and would probably prefer it if we said ‘hello’ without a handshake, a kiss or a hug. This is only for a season and once things are back to normal we can resume being the friendly, hand-shaking, hugging community we’ve always been.

Hand-washing – We are encouraging everyone to follow the advice of the health department and wash hands regularly with soap.

Sanitiser – Hand sanitiser will be available on the entrance table.

Messages – All our messages are recorded and uploaded online. If you are unable to attend a service, we encourage you to download or listen to them here: https://anchor.fm/cityedgechurch or listen to them on your favourite podcast player. Search for City Edge Church Melbourne. Messages are normally uploaded within 24 hours.

Love your neighbours – As the family of God, we’re to show love and support to each other but in addition to this we are also to be light to the world around us. Let’s use this opportunity to shine for Jesus and be light in our community. Make contact with your neighbours and see if they need support in any way. There may be people around you who are feeling alone or fearful – you can make a difference!  “For whoever gives you a roll of toilet paper in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

We are not in any way fearful of this current situation. As Charles Spurgeon said more than 100 years ago, “The Christian need not dread sickness, for he has nothing to lose, but everything to gain, by death.” 1800 years before him, the apostle Paul said, “… it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” [Phil 1:20-21].

If we are required by government directive to close our Sunday meetings for a time, we will comply willingly. We have measures in place, such as Connect Groups, internet banking, social media platforms and online messages, that will enable us to continue to function as the body of Christ.

Our trust is fully in the Lord Jesus and the promises He’s made. But we want to do our part by being sensible and calm and putting a few things in place that can help our community.

You are all in my prayers, and I thank God for what he’s doing in our midst.
