Spring has sprung at Tim Davies Landscaping

Spring in WA
Spring begins in September in WA, and from this time on, the weather quickly warms to fine sunny conditions for the many months ahead. For the most part, spring is sunny and warm, especially from October and November, the weather is generally fine and rain is usually minimal or absent.

TDL Spring tips.......

  • Repot those plants that have been in containers for 2 years or more and those that are getting too big for their containers as 90% of a plants growth occurs during the spring months.
  • Apply a slow-release fertiliser to your garden – this way your whole garden can take advantage of any late rains.
  • Feed your lawns to encourage new growth, or if it is looking like its had its day, now is a good time to lay new turf.
  • If you have citrus, mid spring is the time to fertilise.
  • Apply a thick layer of mulch to your garden beds.

The owners of this house were just at the end of a major house renovation, and wanted to ‘tidy’ up the front yard.  A very large gum tree was responsible for nothing being able to grow underneath.  They wanted an alternative to lawn, but somewhere the kids could go and sit with their friends etc.  The boundary wall also made the area feel very enclosed, and they wanted to open it up to the street a little more.  They wanted a quite modern contemporary look, but still tie to the architecture of the house.  Access to the front door was from a gate at the side of the property, and the front door in the middle.  On entering the property it was a little confusing as to where the front door was.

So, a pathway was designed that used a long arcing curve to direct you to the front door.  Utilising recycled red pavers to tie in with the age of the house.  A raised deck under the gum tree, provides a space to throw some cushions or beanbags for the kids to hang out.  Over time the garden will grow around the deck, giving it a more lush private feel.  We cut several courses off the boundary wall between the pillars to open the garden up a little.  The trees and plants designed into the garden will be tolerant of the shade provided by the gum tree, and with no lawn to suck away the extra water, the garden should now thrive.

TDL sponsored a 1969 Cadillac Convertible in the 2011 Variety Bash.
The Bash goes from Port Hedland to Kununurra. All monies raised go to Variety - the WA Children's Charity.

For the first time ever, TDL hosted a display at the Pool, Spa and Outdoor Living Expo which was held at the Claremont Showgrounds on the 3rd and 4th September.

It was a great opportunity to showcase some of our projects and speak with a diverse group of people about their own outdoor projects.

We found the experience very enjoyable and an invaluable tool to get the TDL name out there.

Hopefully we will see you there next year!
