The Story
8 DJ CREWS • 8 PARTIES • 1 WINNER
In 2014 Section 8 curated and hosted the Inaugral Battle 8. Designed to plug the hole left by the demise in popularity of traditional DJ competitions, inspired by the epic parties that rock our containers weekly; this was an all out celebration of the local talent in our city and the remarkable vibes they can bring. Skills and music aside, teams were publicly voted on the feel-good atmosphere they could create; this was a no-holds barred party competition that bought out the best from Melbourne’s party people. Eight of Melbourne’s finest and most accomplished DJ crews, teams, musicians and cliques battled it out over seven consecutive Sundays for the honour of being crowned the inaugral Battle 8 Champion, and having their name engraved permamently on the specially crafted Battle 8 Trophy.
In two short years Battle 8 has quickly turned into Section 8′s most iconic event; a party of the year celebration that continues to grow every year.

The Champions
In 2015 the 100% Phat Music family lifted the trophy after an epic Grand Final against DJ crew All Good. Headed by Grammy-winning producer M-Phazes, International turntablist legend Total Eclipse (The X-ecutioners) and local star DJ Flagrant, they were backed by a powerful support crew of DJs, musicians, vocalists and MCs. Joining inaugural 2014 Champions Condensed Milk they also had the honor of putting together the official Battle 8 Champions Mixtape!

What is Section 8?
Section 8 first popped up on the Melbourne scene in 2006. The bar was formed in a car park in the heart of the city, nestled within the laneways of Chinatown precinct. Its design encourages interaction with the urban environment and epitomizes city living. The space was configured to integrate simply into its surroundings with an inside and outside feel.
It’s been a long journey, from these humble beginnings as a temporary pop-up bar in a carpark to a permanent standing as a landmark in the Melbourne bar and music scenes. Recently having celebrated our 10th Birthday in suitably eccentric fashion and with a storied history of successful events and shows behind us, our tightknit and forward-looking team is dedicated to continue providing Melbourne with unique and innovative good-time experiences!
