A Greek fraternity at the University of New Mexico has been placed on interim social suspension.
The UNM Dean of Students placed the suspension on Sigma Chi. The restrictions will cause the fraternity and its members to be restricted from social gatherings while the investigation remains open.
Sigma Chi is unable to host or attend formals, mixers, dinners and other social events. This includes any activity involving alcohol.

UNM also offered a brief explanation as to why Sigma Chi or other student organizations could be given an interim social suspension.
"An interim restriction of Student Organization social events may be placed at the discretion of the Student Conduct Officer where a Student Organization is facing allegations related to drugs and/or alcohol, alleged violations that occurred at a social gathering, or alleged violations of the Fraternity and Sorority Risk Management Procedures."
