Fixing rough or textured walls

If your walls are badly uneven, rough and textured, you can try to fill and sand them back. If that doesn't work you have two additional options.

1. Reskimming the plaster

This involves putting a thin layer of new plaster or drywall on the surface of you want to cover up. Plastering is a skill that not many people have acquired and it's definitely worth hiring a professional for this work as it's not that expensive and will look SO much better than if you do it yourself.

2. Replacing the plasterboard

If you have plasterboard in your home (over brick or studs) then you can simply rip the old plasterboard off and put new plasterboard up. New plasterboard is relatively cheap and it's not too difficult to do this yourself (but remember to factor in rubbish removal costs and your inevitable need for new cornices or skirting boards). This is also relatively cheap to have done for you by a professional and so much quicker.

Whichever option you choose, you'll have a beautiful smooth surface on which to paint. To get quotes from professional, quality plasterers simply post your job today. You'll find that most plastering companies can quote you on both options.
