I must admit I have approached Mae Phim with YEARS of caution. Despite working in an office not even half a block away for almost 5 years, today was my first visit. Although Pad Thai is my favorite food of all time, I rarely crave it for lunch and tend to seek lighter cuisines. Today, I caved and placed an order online for a HOT (spiciest level available) chicken Pad Thai.
First off, it's very strange that they offer two sauces for Pad Thai--red and brown. My assumption is that the "brown sauce" is the authentic version made with tamarind sauce, and "red sauce" is probably the abhorrent ketchup variety, but there's no explanation on their menu, so that's just pure speculation. I tend to avoid Thai restaurants that offer the abhorrent ketchup variety like the plague, but at least you get to choose here?
Anyways, the order was ready when promised, and they didn't skimp on portion. Very generous portions of chicken, although it would have been nice if they were cut up into smaller pieces to make it easier to eat. I was, however, disappointed by the COMPLETE lack of spice. Because there was no spice in my HOT Pad Thai, the dish tasted too sweet, and unbalanced as a result. It's a shame, since it really would have been a good pad thai if it had some spice to it.
Despite this, I would probably be willing to return and try one of their lunch special combos (and maybe keep some thai chili flakes at my desk).Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Mar 11, 2018
This place is right by pikes place. It is convenient but it's mediocre when it comes to taste. We ordered the number 25 with beef and it rather fishy tasting. The fish taste was very pungent.
We ordered the combo appetizer and we didn't even finish it. I am not one for cream cheese in my crab wontons (if you like those, it's filled with cream cheese and crab!). The chicken sticks didn't have much flavor to them.
For our one entree, combo appetizer, Thai tea, and a beer was about $35 dollars (I thought it was rather spendy).
It is a small place so if you have a big crowd it might be hard to get everyone in there.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 17, 2019
Quick little spot I found walking towards Pike Place and for the price the quickness of service this place was great... I ordered the egg roll, beef fried rice and beer. Was it the more amazing food I have ever had? Who knows I haven't been to Thailand... but I know for sure it was a hearty meal since I was starving!! Place was clean and you can tell it is family owned, which I always love... the price was 22 which came out on the cheaper side... overall a nice spot to go to if you are traveling and are looking for inexpensive Thai food

Made the mistake of ordering something other than the noodles at this joint for lunch. I ordered shrimp fried rice which was pretty awful. They charged me an extra 3 dollars for shrimp and only gave me 4 pieces in my fried rice. In addition to the meager portions, the rice itself was super mushy, and too sweet to enjoy. I've had a lot of different fried rice in my day and basil fried rice is one of my favorite Thai dishes but this rice was so disappointing. It didn't even taste like it was fried in a wok, the rice had no texture and their definition of vegetables listed under their menu literally means one piece of each to be able to state that its in the dish. Don't go for the fried rice here - stick to what you know.

This time around, I emphasized very spicy and was happy to receive a scorching plate of noodles. The noodles were chewy, and thick and coated in their delicious sauce. This time around I noticed a few more vegetables and was so happy they listened to my request for spicy noodles. The chicken was tender and there was a lot of it.
While these noodles aren't necessarily lunch price, their portions are. If you are looking to have leftovers I suggest getting a regular size meal. Recently I walked past there and saw some pictures of some $9 options that I never noticed before. While I love thick rice noodles, I may be tempted to try something else the next time I am here. While this place isn't amazing, it is pretty good for its convenience and noodle options.Feb 17, 2019Previous reviewLocated right around Pike place is a hole in the wall that is bustling with workers trying to get their lunch fix. If you come around lunch time and don't order ahead you're in for a treat of stampedes, shoving and getting yelled at by the servers. I order pad kee mao at the spiciest level which they stated was a 4. This is not a 4. Most thai restaurants when I order spicy food tend to be true to their origins and douse it in spice but there wasn't a single bite that I felt like was spicy in the slightest bit.
The noodles were thick and lush and had a great chew to them. The portion size itself was a little shocking as when I order thai I tend to have leftovers but the portion seemed very meager for the $11 lunch I paid for. While there weren't too many vegetables, the dish did have large chunks of chicken and basil that made the dish aromatic and satisfying. - Kristin O.Seattle, WA911334Nov 24, 2019
Very good inexpensive Thai food. This is exactly want I want when I craved Thai food. We stopped in mid afternoon on a Sunday. It wasn't busy and the food came out very quickly. The aesthetic is nothing special, but isn't off pointing either.
We ordered the pad se ew and the pad Thai. Both were good. We ordered 3 and 4 spice and neither were too spicy. Pad se ew was the best I've had in a while. Lots of delicious flavors.
We will definitely come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kaitlin R.Minot, ND121287601Jul 22, 2019
The family and staff at Mae Phim Thai were so friendly, helpful, and understanding about my gluten free, dairy free, and egg free needs and helped me to navigate their menu. My dish came out utterly delicious and quickly. They also explained more about authenticity of Thai food ingredients in certain dishes to help me to understand.
I will never forget this place, as I understand my options better and my love for Thai has grown even more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 21, 2018
Was craving some Thai food for lunch and this place seemed like it would be quick takeout. Immediatly when I walked in I got a very family run - authentic vibe. It was busy at lunch with people eating on and waiting for take out. They have a large selection of options on their lunch menu. The real star is the lunch combos. For $11 you can get an entree, rice, pad Thai, a spring roll and a potsticker. Portion size was small on all but it made for a good sized meal with a lot of variety. I think the price was good, service was great, but the food itself was just average. I really want to like this place so I will have to try it again.

Mae Phim has become my go-to when I'm in Seattle. If you can ignore the a lack of curb appeal and modest interior decor, you'll find a delicious meal waiting for you. The green curry dish is SO delicious, aromatic and flavorful, served in a large portion with rice. The fresh rolls and peanut sauce are so good that I order two servings and take one to eat on the plane the next day. The servers are lovely and the restaurant runs a bustling take-out business. I highly recommend this place! It's located just a couple of blocks from Pike's Market.

Perfect portion, very good food, but didn't appreciate the service.
My waiter was in a hurry and instead of asking me for how spicy I would like my curry, he automatically made it a 5*. It was a two way burn for me - way in and way out. Other than that, I'll definitely come back here again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
