Public consultation is a crucial part of the National Construction Code development process. Jye Sutrin, a Building Surveyor from our Newcastle office recently took an interest in the call from the Australian Building Codes Board for public comment regarding proposed changes to the NCC and in particular All-Gender Facilities. He insisted we should post about this, as it is your opportunity to put forward your thoughts on the changes, which you can do here until 1st July 2024: https://lnkd.in/gxw_5Wu3 At MBC Group we are in support of clients incorporating All-Gender facilities into their projects. Senior Access Consultant, Jhoana Colorado recently shared an article exploring the differences between the Unisex Accessible Toilet (F4D6) and the Unisex Accessible Adult Change Facility (D4D12) within the scope of inclusive design, read more here: https://lnkd.in/gEa4xv94 In the NCC as it stands the applicable clauses could be read as stipulating the need for bathrooms to suit gender-diverse people or the needs of gender-diverse occupants. However, the DTS provisions do not include a suitable mechanism to provide such facilities. Furthermore, the provisions also use outdated and inconsistent gender terminology. The proposed amendment to use ‘gender’ instead of ‘sex’ will help to modernise the language used in the NCC. Ensuring a better built school environment - we're pleased to see the Meriden School Greenhalgh Centre for Music & Drama profiled in The Australian Financial Review’s Innovation in Education Special Report. We have worked with the school and project manager Carmichael Tompkins Property Group (CTPG) to provide a building compliance pathway for this substantial project along with the delivery of the Lingwood Campus and other upgrades since 2018. We are currently working on the new Design and Creative Arts (DaCA) building which will span five storeys and enable Meriden School to continue to deliver adaptable, purpose-built spaces that will facilitate a student-centred approach in an ever evolving 21st century learning landscape. This armed and dangerous gangster, Machine Gun Joel Lewis celebrates his 40th birthday today. He’s on the run somewhere, but enjoyed our 1920s themed event last week. Who says building surveyors aren’t fun? Just make sure you stay on the right side of them! #happybirthday #funatwork #buildingsurveyors

Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during WWI. The Dawn Service marks the time that Australians first waded ashore on Anzac Cove in 1915. It is a day of remembrance that honours the bravery and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. Anzac Day is a symbol of national identity and pride, as well as a reminder of the cost of war. It is an opportunity for all communities to come together and pay respect to those who have served their country. #anzacday #lestweforget #respect

Last week World Heritage Day was celebrated, although somewhat confusingly its real name is The International Day for Monuments and Sites. It was established in 1982 by the International Council for Monuments and Sites. The day is all about increasing the awareness of the importance of the diversity of cultural heritage and preserving it for future generations. This year, the theme was 'Discover and Experience Diversity' and shines a light on the richness of our collective history. It also reminds us to explore and appreciate the unique heritage of different communities. Here we take a look at how the built environment of yesteryear can be preserved through reuse which does present some issues for building compliance even when modifications are only internal. #heritage #buildingconstruction #buildingsurveyors #access

Great video from Baseline highlighting the time, attention to detail and collaborative approach needed to deliver a logistically complex renewal program for TAFE NSW. Well done to the Baseline and extended project teams, it was a pleasure to be involved for the works at TAFE NSW Granville, Erora, Parkes and Hornsby. #buildingconstruction #certification #buildingsurveyors

As of October 1st last year, the NSW Government's Sustainable Buildings SEPP set forth a transformative path for urban development, ushering in a new era of sustainability standards. At MBC Group, we are always ready to guide you through this evolving landscape, ensuring your projects not only meet but exceed these benchmarks. What Does This Mean for You? The Sustainable Buildings SEPP introduced updated BASIX standards and, for the first time, requirements for calculating and reporting embodied emissions in key building materials. These changes are designed to significantly reduce carbon footprints and push the boundaries of energy efficiency in new developments. The provisions apply to all new non-residential development with a capital investment value of $5 million or more, or alterations of existing buildings for non-residential use with a capital investment value of $10 million or more. Exemptions relating to land use zones are described in Chapter 3.1 of the SEPP. Our Expertise, Your Advantage Leveraging our deep expertise in building certification and a keen understanding of the latest sustainability requirements, MBC Group is your partner for achieving compliance and excellence in green building practices. Different sustainability standards apply for residential and non-residential buildings, we’re here to ensure your projects not only align with these new regulations but also contribute to a sustainable future for all.
