Our promise stands on a foundation of best-in-class payments expertise - not a passing moment of frenzy and excitement. We started as a pioneer in cashless payment, securing checks and credit cards through digitization. One of our first inventions was the "Verification Phone," an electronic method that protects merchants from fraudulent checks. Our brand name and problem-solving DNA emerges from that initial innovation. We ended up in all corners of the world, because no merchant could prosper without secure payments. We started at point-of-sale and became the world's most trusted payment expert with best-in-class hardware.
Today, we've pivoted our focus to software applications - payments are now a beginning, not an end - but our bedrock remains the same: Global trust and universal availability. We earn trust from our partners through our proven ability to enable more than 10 billion secure transactions a year - from the largest global big boxes, the neighborhood bar and the corner street vendor. In August 2020, Verifone acquired 2Checkout
This milestone solidifies our commitment to providing seamless and frictionless experiences to customers globally through innovative and next-generation hardware and cloud services. 2Checkout becomes Verifone, and the unified company will enable omnichannel commerce wherever and whenever clients shop. 2Checkout started officially in 2006, but the story begins long before that. Originally, the founders were part of GECAD Group who developed RAV Antivirus (the technology purchased by Microsoft in 2003). As part of that company, selling software products on a global level was an essential business requirement. This was so hard and complex that the founders decided to make this a business on its own and help other software companies sell globally. The company continuously evolved and became a digital commerce leader on the international market for digital goods, enabling software companies to accelerate online sales through any channel, any model, and any market. In October 2013, Avangate was acquired by Francisco Partners, a leading global private equity firm. In April 2017, Avangate acquired 2Checkout to expand payment flexibility and broaden market reach, and the joint company was reintroduced under one name as 2Checkout to power modern Digital Commerce for global businesses across many industries and in every market.
