Dyslexia Queensland - Dyslexia screening service

Dyslexia Screening Service

Dyslexia Queensland is committed to providing a comprehensive dyslexia screening service designed to actively identify students who exhibit characteristics of the dyslexic learning style. Our aim is not only to identify these students but also to offer tailored recommendations for schools, ensuring that appropriate adjustments are made in the classroom environment and during examinations to accommodate their specific learning needs.

The Screening Process

The screening process is a crucial first step in this journey. It typically takes approximately two hours to complete. During this time, parents are asked to fill out paperwork, providing valuable background information about their child. Meanwhile, the student is guided through a series of short activities as part of the screening process. These activities are thoughtfully designed to assess various aspects of literacy and language skills without overwhelming the student.

As part of the screening, standardised tests are administered to gather objective data. These include a standardised reading test and the collection of a writing sample. For secondary students, an additional standardised spelling test is included in the data collection process. By combining these assessments with information gathered from the Dyslexia Screening Test, we can form a comprehensive understanding of the student’s strengths and challenges in literacy and language.

Following the screening, our team meticulously analyses the collected data to prepare a detailed report. This report not only highlights the findings of the screening but also provides personalised recommendations for support. Within two weeks of the screening, you will receive this report, empowering you with valuable insights into your child’s learning profile.

The Report

One of the key benefits of our screening service is the ability to share the report with your child’s teachers and school administrators. By doing so, you can ensure that there is accountability in implementing the recommended support strategies. This collaborative approach fosters a supportive learning environment that caters to the unique needs of students with dyslexia.
