I have a laptop and the screen does not work. the HDMI and PC screen ports do not allow external screens to be attached either. I want all data pulled off the hard drive and onto a portable storage drive.

Hi Elliot Have tools and external docks needed to transfer. Offer for pickup of laptop & external hdd drive and return on completion. Time to complete data transfer will depend on state of drive and amount of data to transfer. I'm in the area during the day tomorrow if that suits or otherwise let me know times when you are available. Thanks Peter

Most laptops will have the 15 pin VGA connectors or a mini one. Have you tried this?
