What is QuickCorrect? QuickCorrect is the feature that automatically fixes mis-spelled words and can also be used to create text shortcuts - abbreviations of words or phrases that, when typed, expand automatically into the full word or phrase. (Note that QuickCorrect and QuickWords are different features. QuickWords does basically the same thing, except that QuickWords can insert formatted text and can insert larger blocks of text than QuickCorrect.) To find QuickCorrect go to Tools | QuickCorrect.
When I type (c) or (r), how do I stop WordPerfect from turning them into © and ®? Remove those items from the QuickCorrect list: go to Tools | QuickCorrect, select each item and click "Delete Entry".
Where is the QuickCorrect list stored? In the User Word List file (which also includes the words you add to spell checker). The file is named WTxy.UWL where x is your WordPerfect version number and y is your language version. For example, the UWL file for the U.S. language version of WordPerfect 12 is WT12US.UWL. In Windows 2000 and XP, it's usually located at C:\Documents and Settings\[your profile name]\My Documents\Corel User Files. In Windows 98 it should be found at C:\My Documents\Corel User Files.
Note: If you go to this folder and see files named things like "WT12US" without the .UWL on the end of the name, you have to tell Windows to display filename extensions so that you'll know which is the UWL file as there are (or may be) two files named "WT12US", one ending in .UWL and one ending in .HST: in Windows Explorer, go to Tools | Folder Options | View and un-check the box marked "Hide extensions for known file types", then click "OK".
Can I back up this file? Yes, you should definitely back it up because it can become corrupt: make a copy of it and keep it somewhere else or in the same place but with a different name - for example WT12US.UWL.BK (the default Copy of WT12US.UWL which it will be named if you paste the copy into the same folder works too).
Can I copy it to another computer? Yes, just copy it to the correct location (varies with operating system - see above) on the new computer.
I upgraded to a new version of WordPerfect. Can I use the UWL file for my old version in the new version? Yes, copy the file and paste it in the same folder as the UWL file for the new version of WordPerfect (which may be the same folder if you've just installed the new WordPerfect version on the same computer as your older version was installed on), locate the automatically-created UWL file for the new version of WordPerfect (again, all of these files may be in the same folder) and either delete it or rename it, then rename the UWL file you just copied so it is named correctly for the new version (for example, WT12US.UWL for the U.S. language version of WordPerfect 12). Corel has a Knowledge Base article on this topic: Corel KB Article 753781
Can I print or save a list of the words in my QuickCorrect list? You can print a copy of the entire UWL list which will include both the QuickCorrect list and words you have added to Spell Checker. See Corel KB Article 758159.
Note: This procedure dumps your UWL list into a WordPerfect document (which you can then print). I tried it and noticed that a hard return, backslash, and equal sign were inserted between each mis-spelled word or abbreviated form and its corresponding corrected or expanded form. If this happens to you, a quick find and replace can reformat the list sensibly:

Open the Find and Replace dialog (Ctrl+F)
With your cursor in the Find field go to Match | Codes, type HRT, click Insert & Close, then type a backslash and the equal sign - in the Find field you should now see: [HRt]\=
With your cursor in the Replace field go to Replace | Codes, type or scroll down to and select Hd Left Ind (a hard left Indent), and click Insert & Close - the Replace field should now look like: [Hd Left Ind]
Click "Replace All"
To get the list to line up nicely you may have to delete a couple of tab stops so that the first tab stop on the line is 2 or 3 inches from the left margin
The resulting list will show the mis-spelled or abbreviated QuickCorrect form on the left and its corrected or expanded form on the right. Words that do not have a corrected or abbreviated form in the right column are words that have been added to the Spell Checker.

My QuickCorrect list is blank - what happened? A couple of things to try:
1. The UWL file in current use is specific to the writing tools language in current use (at cursor position). I don't mean the language you're typing in, I mean the active language setting under Tools | Language | Settings. Different parts of a document can be set to use different language tools, and while your cursor is in one of those sections, the active UWL file will not be your usual UWL file (it will probably be blank or almost blank). Different language codes sometimes get inserted into a document inadvertently, especially a document that's been converted to WordPerfect from another format.
With your cursor in the document at a place where QuickCorrect is blank, go to Tools | Language | Settings and verify that the selected language is the correct one (the one you normally use and that matches your UWL file). For example, if your UWL file is WT12US.UWL, the selected language should be "English-US".
If something other than your language is selected and you want the entire document to use the writing tools for your default language, don't make the change here - that would just add one more language code into your document, and what you really need to do is get rid of the language codes that are already there. Cancel out of this screen then either search your document for language codes and remove them or there's a shortcut: select your entire document (Ctrl+A), go to Tools | Language | Settings, select anything other than your normal language, and click OK, then (with the entire document still selected) go back into Tools | Language | Settings, select your correct language, and click OK.
2. Your UWL file could have become corrupt. If you have a backup copy of your UWL file, with WP closed go to the location of your UWL file (use Windows Explorer or something comparable), rename it (e.g. WT12US.UWL.OLD), copy your backup UWL file to this location, renaming it as needed so that it is named correctly for your version of WordPerfect (see "Where is the QuickCorrect list stored" above), then open WordPerfect.
If you don't have a backup copy of your UWL file, you can recover the default copy that ships with WordPerfect and/or try to recover your corrupt UWL file by running it through the WPLook utility. To recover the default UWL file rename your UWL file (see above), then open WordPerfect - a new default copy of the UWL file will be created automatically. To try using the WPLook utility to clean corruption out of your UWL file see this FAQ: Where can I find the WPLook utility for repairing corrupt WP documents.
