OPPOSED BLADE DAMPERS: Two Position

AUTOMATIC OPPOSED BLADE DAMPER - MODEL AOBD

AUTOMATIC OPPOSED BLADE DAMPER (MODEL AOBD)

MODEL AOBD

The Automatic Opposed Blade Damper (Model AOBD), is a complete factory assembled motorized damper. The damper is constructed of anodised extruded aluminium with stainless steel gearing and linkage. The counter balanced opposed blade damper design requires very little energy to operate and presents a minimum of air restriction when the damper is open, It also provides a tight shutoff when closed, The AOBD is recommended for low pressure systems under I " of static pressure.

The thinline design of the damper allows it to be installed in a minimum length of duct The actual width of the damper frame is 2~" (56mm), The AOBD has a 5" ( I 27mm) wide end plate with pre‑punched mounting holes that secure the damper to the sides of any duct. The damper is also very lightweight, which makes it easy to install into any fiberglass duct board system.

The simple operation of the damper and 24‑volt motor makes it easy to use the AOBD for a number of automatic damper applications such as zone control, fresh air intake, make‑up air or ventilation, closing of ducts to furnaces or air handlers when not operating, directing air in solar applications, switching return air from high and low returns (depending on the season), face and by‑pass (one opens as the other closes), etc.

The AOBD is available in rectangular sizes from 6" x 4" ( I 52mm x 101 mm) to 30" x 14" (762mm x 355mm) and in square sizes from 6" X 6" ( I 52mm x 1 52mm) to 20" x 20" (508mm x 508mm), all in 2" (5mm) incre. meets. For larger size dampers, multiple AOBD dampers may be inserted into the same duct, either one stacked on top of another or inserted from opposite ends of the duct. The damper motors may be wired together so both dampers operate from the same thermostat or control. For odd size dampers, the factory will install a 1 " aluminium filer strip on the odd side or both sides. All dampers are 3/16" (4mm) undersized from the listed size,

The damper may be mounted in any position or any angle. The timing between open and closed is 30 seconds. No power is used once the damper is in the open or closed position.

This damper is designed to be easily installed without any disassembly of existing duct work. To install: cut a 3" wide opening in the duct, insert the damper, and secure the mounting plate to the duct with the sheet metal screws provided.

DETERMINING THE DAMPER POSITION

Once the damper is concealed in the ductwork, observing the position of the rotating crank arm of the motor actuator will indicate which position the damper Is In: open or closed.

THE DAMPER IS IN THE OPEN POSITION … when the end of the crank arm is pointing inward toward the damper.

THE DAMPER IS IN THE CLOSED POSITION … when the end of the crank arm is pointing outward away from the damper.

NOTE: A decorative motor cover is supplied with each motorized damper.

 MODEL AOBD-BM

The Automatic Opposed Blade Damper‑Bottom Mount (Model AOBD-BM), is similar to the AOBD, except the motor and end plate are mounted on the longer side of the damper. This solves the problem of installing dampers into ducts that are tight against a wall, or between other ducts or floor joists. Many contractors prefer the AOBD-BM for all installations in ducts up to 20" wide (maximum width available), because it is easily accessible if service is ever required.

The AOBD-BM is also used in ducts that have a higher than wide dimension, because it can be installed in any position. It can also be installed into the top of any duct; it simplifies installation using a counter flow furnace and is best suited for duct board applications. By inserting the damper in the top of the duct, the weight of the damper is sufficient to hold it in place and the end plate can be taped to the duct board. The AOBD-BM is available in a variety of sizes, Rom 6" x 8" ( I 52mm x 202mm) to 12" x 20" (304mm x 508mm), all in even 2" (50mm) increments. When ordering the AOBD-BM, the damper dimensions should be stated height by width.

INTERNAL  OPPOSED BLADE DAMPER - Model IOBD

The Internal Opposed Blade Damper, (Model IOBD), is similar to the AOBD and AOBD-BM, except for the position of the motor actuator. The IOBD damper has the motor mounted within the dimensions of the damper. When installed in the duct, the damper and motor are completely concealed within the ductwork. The IOBD can be inserted easily into the open end of the duct, and secured by the 4 mounting tabs on the side frames of the damper. The IOBD has a maximum depth of 5" ( I 26mm) including the damper and motor. It is available in the same sizes as the AOBD.

This damper is designed so that it can be inserted into the ductwork with the entire damper and motor assembly completely concealed internally in the duct. The IOBD can be used in goose neck ducts on roofs for fresh air intake control, or for any other purpose where a motorized damper is needed to control the flow of air to a particular type of architectural grille or diffuser
