The Tamworth region includes many towns, villages and localities each with their own unique character.

Education

Tamworth serves 200,000 residents in NSW’s New England/North West, boasting 60+ education providers, employing 2,500+. Higher education includes TAFE Western, University of Newcastle’s Dept. of Rural Health, University of New England, and more. 8 private schools, 30 public schools, 20+ early childhood centers cater to diverse needs.

The Tamworth region hosts 29,586 jobs across various sectors like Health Care, Retail, Manufacturing, Education, and Construction. Tamworth is part of Hunter New England Local Health District, offers public health services at the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital as well as Tamara Private Hospital. There are also a range of medical centers and General Practices.

Tamworth enjoys a wide and very affordable range of housing with sales prices well below NSW valuations. The current median house price is $430,000 and $262,500 for units/ townhouses (Dec 2021 – economy id). Rental costs are also consistently lower in Tamworth than NSW, with the median rental price of $380/wk for a house and $280/wk for a unit.

There is a significant and unspoken confidence in the Tamworth region as an economic powerhouse for the New England and North West regions. Over $300 million of development has been approved in the previous two financial years, which is reflected in the thriving construction industry and contribution to the region’s Gross Regional Product.

Transport

Tamworth Regional Airport, located 10km west of the city, is one of the largest of the secure regional airports in Australia and capable of operations for aircraft as large as B737/A320 series.

The service from Tamworth to Sydney is provided my NSW TrainLink. NSW TrainLink are also running various coach services from Tamworth to other locations in NSW. 

There are many bus companies within the Tamworth area that provide transport to local schools and throughout the area. The main providers are Tamworth Buslines and Macphersons Coaches.
