We've already got the ideal system with WASD, why change it at all?:IS2:

That's exactly what I said when they changed from Mouse in the mod to WASD in Ostfront.

Perhaps they changed it to WASD because it is a better way of doing it.
But if their is an option to use the system of your choice, everybody will be happy.
Give ppl. the option to choose between the two or a mixture of both.

How can mouse be ideal when its so unrealistic? The fact that no coordination is needed between traverse & elevation completely ruins the feel of performing actual gun laying. Anyone who has performed real life gun laying with anything similar to a tank turret, for ex. laying a flak piece, will know what I'm talking about.

Mouse controlled turrets are for games such as the CoD, Homefront & Battlefield series, where seeing turrets spin around like crazy is just another day at the office.

Is no more unrealistic than pressing some keys, and I didn't notice any guns turning like crazy in Combined Arms.

No, it's less realistic because it does not require the separate control in each axis. With a mouse, you simply point to what you want to aim at. It's basic motor skills that an infant has.

Using a keyboard to independently control traverse and elevation is more realistic, because in reality, traverse and elevation were controlled separately, and thus, keyboard adds a realistic amount of difficulty in acquiring your target.

Well we could see a lot of infants buying the game on 30th Aug. lol :D

No no no the worst thing is if they make it optional. Then everyone will go with mouse instead because its easier

No, not everyone would ugh... certainly not the people wanting to use WSAD here in the poll.

Personally I don't care what little Billy in Whatchumacallit USA uses, mouse or WSAD. I plan to out think him anyway :p

We could argue all day about which system we prefer, but if both options are available then their is no need to argue.
I think i read somewhere that all keys are customisable, and if that is true TWI could end all argument by confirming that we could still use the keyboard as well as the mouse.

You seem to not be understanding the argument that OP is making.

I usually don't rage over internet drama, but some of you are doing a really bad job at employing reading comprehension. Then again, I would posit that those that don't understand or could careless that are posting in this thread never liked or do much tanking in RO or DH (any game that has tanks for that matter). For if you did, then the argument that OP is making would be crystal clear.

Unfortunately some of you have turned this thread into those that hate "choices", which is absurd. While OP doesn't want a server he is playing on to allow the user to pick either or, I'm quite confident he wouldn't be against a server admin being able to pick the setting so that one server has the WASD or mouse functionality. Then again, why would you?

Why are some people arguing if it was keyboard, whether it'd be WASD or arrows. Like I answered in some other thread, this is a computer game, you can bind your keys to pretty much anything, you could even have something instead of WASD like space, esc, U and tab, anything you like...

But keyboard would be awesome, keyboard / joystick.

They decided to go with the design decision of having the turrent control via mouse...

I imagine the main reason for this was simply to avoid people having to switch between movement (WSAD) and head control (Mouse) and movement (WSAD) and turret control (↑↓←→), or whatever combination of the 2. Having the turrent controlled by the keys as well as giving commands to the tank crew would be a little awkward.

If you really want the turret control to be done with keys (if it isn't in the game) then get a free mouse emulator and bind it the keys you want to use.
