Following in the footsteps of our mining Pioneers.......

        About the tour!

 

  • Tours depart from the bus shelter Morgan Street (Mount Morgan's main street just off highway).
  •  Highlights various points of interest of both historical and redeveloped buildings. 
  • A panoramic view of the town and mine is offered from the lookout.  The tour continues through " Little Ireland " and along the banks of the Dee River.

  • First stop on mine site- the Old General Office built in 1897 - wander the corridors and marvel at displays of the old mining days.  See our most recent attraction 'Michael Durrant's wonderful world of fossils'.

  • View the old underground workings, equipment and the main Stack. 

  • View the environmental rehabilitation projects being undertaken by the Queensland Government on the Mount Morgan mine site and Dee River.  A massive project to manage the acid mine drainage. 

  • Overlook the Open Cut Pit  at the special viewing platform.

  • Finally we wind our way to the top of mountain stopping at the man made fire clay caverns and take a look inside. Our guide takes you through these massive caverns on a  paleontology discovery, a most fascinating experience.

Tours depart daily at 10.30am and 1pm (Bookings Required - Operations subject to bookings in off season) from the main street Mount Morgan.  See our fares  Please note the following:

  • Access to mine and caves may be affected by wet conditions.

  • Closed in footwear mandatory

  • Group bookings of maximum 16 welcome in our Coach (Please Book)

  • Special arrangements for school excursions and groups in private coaches

  • Special day trip to Mount Morgan.  Group pick up from Rockhampton region arranged on request; traveling via the scenic Kabra Lane and Razorback to Mount Morgan to connect with the 10.30am tour and return to Rockhampton by 4pm.Meals supplied and other attractions to see that will cover the whole day experience of historic Mount Morgan.
