Our history

The area bound by Latrobe, Exhibition, Spring and Little Lonsdale Streets was home to Melbourne's notorious red light district. Dubbed 'Little Lon', this area comprised of a network of lanes and alleys. The Testra Exchange building and Spring Street Towers, the Focal and the Citygate apartments incorporated these lanes as part of their land consolidation.

In more recent times, the Commonwealth building famous for its green tile cladding was constructed on the corner of Spring and Little Lonsdale Streets. The Commonwealth offices moved to Casselden Place on the corner of Spring and Lonsdale Streets before the former green cladded building was demolished and the site sold.

Spring Street

Spring Street was named after Thomas Spring Rice, Chancellor of the Exchecquer.
