New York Fashion Week S/S 2013: Rag & Bone gets inspired by the London Olympics; Revlon gives us bold brows

The more photos we’re seeing come out of New York Fashion Week, the more we become devastated that we’re not there. The latest collection we’re crushing on is the relaxed chic Rag & Bone look, with designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville seemingly channeling sporty chic in their designs.

The collection consisted predominantly of a relaxed, utilitarian look that still maintained an air of chic sophistication. Stripes and solid colours were prominent; with models donning detailed layered looks consisting of green, salmon and khaki hues. Shirtdresses ensured the look was relaxed, while sharp tailored jackets with clever zipper and embellishment detailing kept the ensembles from venturing into the bland. Dresses with a hint of a flair added a feminine touch to an otherwise androgynous collection, as did sweet little pleated skirts.

We’re guessing that the London Olympics were of some inspiration to Wainwright and Neville, with Saks Fifth Avenue senior fashion director Colleen Sherin previously telling Reuters that we could expect to see more luxe sport at NYFW.

“The Olympics were probably on many designers’ minds when they were designing these collections … so we will see sporty jackets and track pants and some athletic inspirations,” she said.

Ultimately the collection oozed an easy-to-wear appeal, which is essentially what we love about Rag & Bone.

But it wasn’t just the relaxed attire the models donned that impressed us: we’ll be hurrying to imitate the beauty looks that were seen on the runway. Revlon Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, had the job of creating the understated glam looks of the models, consisting of bold brows and natural, dewy skin, in a nod to beauty looks of some of the biggest supermodels of the 90s.

“I wanted to create a look that was bold, but still looked soft and natural,” she said. “I was inspired by the iconic supermodels of the 90s and the great structure of their brows. I kept the makeup very pure, adding just a touch of natural flush to the lips by mixing two lip products together.”

It’s definitely one of the classiest looks we’ve seen so far, and just the perfect balance of simplistic chic and cutting-edge glam. You can get the same rosy look on your lips by mixing Revlon’s ColourBurst Lip butter in Sugar Plum and ColourStay lipliner in Nude.
