Are you concerned about your child’s literacy, numeracy and learning? Parents and carers understand their child and want to support their education. If your child is struggling at school it's best to seek advice early. 

A great place to start is to speak to one of our our friendly Information and Referral Officers who are happy to answer your questions. 

SPELD NSW offers parent workshops, resources and support for parents and families seeking assessments and intervention.

Parents are welcome to join SPELD NSW as Individual Members. We’re a community of parents, schools, educators and professionals with a shared commitment to early identification, effective intervention and support for students with specific learning difficulties.

Information and SupportLearning Difficulties Guide for ParentsYou may have recently received a diagnosis for your child or perhaps they are struggling at school with reading, spelling and maths. 

A great place to start when looking for information about specific learning difficulties like dyslexia is the AUSPELD Understanding Learning Difficulties Guide for Parents available as a free download or a hard copy through the SPELD NSW Store.

Our friendly and experienced Information and Referral Officers are available Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, to listen to your concerns and provide you with information, support and resources.

Parent Information Workshops

Parents and carers are welcome to attend our Parent Information Workshops to learn more about how to support their children with learning difficulties. Our workshops focus on evidence-based literacy and numeracy instruction and best-practice approaches to teach and support students with specific learning difficulties like dyslexia. Parent workshops are held regularly at the SPELD NSW offices in Parramatta and as live webinars and can be held as evening workshops for parents in your school or region. ​

AssessmentsChildren and adults can access complete educational assessmentsAn assessment can help identify individual learning strengths and weaknesses to find out if an identifiable learning difficulty exists.

Individuals being assessed have usually struggled with one or more of the core academic skill areas such as reading, writing, spelling or mathematics for an extended period of time.
