About Us

The directors of Robertson & Hindmarsh Pty Ltd, Scott Robertson and Jan Robertson, are both highly qualified architects who work directly with their clients and their builders providing complete architectural services.


Scott Robertson

Scott Robertson holds the degrees of Master of the Built Environment (Building Conservation), Bachelor of Architecture (Honours), and a PhD centred on traditional Javanese architecture, awarded by the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

He has over 30 years' experience as an architect in private practice, involved in projects ranging from residential alterations and additions, new houses and small commercial and institutional projects. He has over 20 years' experience as a heritage consultant involved in projects ranging from conservation management plans, major research projects and the design, documentation and contract administration of a range of conservation building projects.

Scott has 20 years' experience as a lecturer at both the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales in subjects relating to the management of architectural practices.

He has written a large number of articles for newspapers and journals, chapters in books on architecture and has translated articles on architecture from both French and Indonesian to English as well as giving general lectures on architecture and conservation and speaking at specialist seminars and conferences.

Scott is the founding president of Docomomo Australia, the Australian branch of an international organisation, founded in the Netherlands and now headquartered in Paris, concerned with the documentation and conservation of buildings and areas or modern architecture.

Scott is also a member of the National Trust of Australia (NSW) Urban Conservation Committee, a member of the executive committee of the Art Deco Society of NSW, a member of Society of Architectural Historians of Australia and New Zealand (SAHANZ), the Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS) and a full member of Australia ICOMOS.

Scott Robertson also acts as an expert witness on heritage matters in the NSW Land & Environment Court.


Jan Robertson

Jan Robertson holds the degree of Bachelor of Architecture (Honours), from the University of New South Wales, an Honours Certificate of Horticulture from the Ryde School of Horticulture and a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies from Macquarie University, Sydney.

She has over 30 years' experience as an architect and interior designer in private practice, involved in projects ranging from residential alterations and additions, new houses and small commercial and institutional projects. She has over 20 years' experience as a landscape designer designing gardens for multiple and single residences and institutions.

Jan is a member of the National Trust of Australia (NSW), the Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers and the Australian Garden History Society.
