About Rooibos

Rooibos (pronounced roy-boss) is Afrikaans for Red Bush, a plant grown in its indigenous environment on the foothills of the stunning Cederberg Mountains in South Africa. Rooibos is grown organically in this unique region and has been brewed as tea for centuries by locals, who recognise its health benefits and healing properties.

Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free and very low in tannin. It has a high content of polyphenol antioxidants, which work to reduce chemicals called free-radicals in the body. Free-radicals have been linked to heart disease, liver disease and cancer. These combined health benefits make Rooibos a perfect alternative to traditional black tea or coffee, and unlike many other herbal teas, it tastes great with or without milk.

Rooibos comes in teabags or loose tea, with a range of natural sumptuous flavours. And excitingly you can now make a deliciously smooth Rooibos Latte in your coffee machine or percolator using 100% organic ground Rooibos. This product has just arrived in Australia and is taking the local café-culture by storm.

So what are you waiting for? Go on a healthier journey with African Rooibos.

About Red Bush Australia

In 2004, I discovered Rooibos teas while living in Germany with my partner. Germans are keen Rooibos drinkers and most pantry cupboards in Germany boast a range of Rooibos teas.

Since I was a teenager I had suffered acute migraines, and health-professionals had suggested I avoid caffeine. Having been a lover of coffee and black tea, it had been hard to give these up until I came across Rooibos. It was the perfect substitute as it comes in a range of delicious flavours, and can be enjoyed with milk, which I’m quite partial to.

I soon became a huge fan of Rooibos teas, and on trips back home to Melbourne I couldn’t figure out why it was so hard to come by, and so expensive, in Australia. I dreamt of one day bringing the wonderful world of Rooibos teas to Australia.

Friends and family at home came to know and love Rooibos teas, as I’d bring it back as gifts on my visits home. Before long there was a steady demand for the tea among my peers and my suitcase was increasingly overrun by tea on each visit! It wasn’t long before I realised a few bags in my suitcase wasn’t going to cut it anymore, and the Red Bush Australia journey began.

I went straight to the source in South Africa, and tested a range of teas from some of the largest and smallest suppliers. Three years on, I imported the first batch of premium quality Rooibos, in a range of delicious flavours and using only natural ingredients. Red Bush Australia was born.

I have done my best to bring you a quality, healthy product, and present it elegantly with artwork by a local artist. At the same time I have tried to consider our precious environment where possible, using recycled and biodegradable packaging, and avoiding waste by choosing biodegradable teabags with no strings or tags.

Having been a huge Latte drinker in the past, I thought the next best thing would be a Rooibos Latte. I soon set about testing loose teas and teabags in attempts to create one. Through collaboration with my supplier in South Africa, I’m so excited to bring you the 100% organic and natural Rooibos Latte, made from the highest quality Rooibos. Super easy to make, the fine powder can be used in a coffee machine or percolator in place of coffee grounds. Available in pure Rooibos or with chai spices, it’s a healthier choice and can be enjoyed morning, noon and night.

Thanks for joining me on this healthier journey. It’s great to have your company!
