When it comes to DS homebrew games for the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo 3DS, you're presented with wide range of different games and applications.  They can range from fully completed and finished games to work in progress titles that are a bit rough around the edges but offer up some of the best gameplay that homebrew gaming can provide.  Some of our favorite homebrew games are games that have been remade.  Classic games that were out for the Nintendo or Amiga computer and can now be played on the DS and 3DS systems.  It's a great way to introduce these old fantastic classic games to the next generation of gamers, while bringing back a wave of nostalgia to those of us that were able to play these when they were first released.

All of the DS and 3DS homebrew games we review will of course need you to have either An R4 3DS for the 3DS, an R4i SDHC for the DSI or DSi XL or the original R4 DS Card for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite systems.  Without these cards, you won't be able to load this fantastic homebrew games.  The R4 is an excellent investment as a result of games like this.  And there are plenty more.  Without having to go out and spend money on additional games for $30 or $40 each, you can download and play all of the freeware homebrew games your heart desires.

Lemmings DS is one of those games.  Brought back to life through a faithful conversion and update to an old classic game that was an instant hit when it was released for the Commodore Amiga system.  It was a mix of comedy and strategy that required you to put on your thinking cap.  The premise of the game seemed rather simple.  Help all of the lemmings get from the start to the exit door on each level.  Playing the first few levels of this ds homebrew game seemed like a breeze.  It was easy to get the lemmings out safely.  But as we played the higher levels, it became clear that the obstacles were many, and your resources were limited a just a few umbrellas or pick axe's which would let you dig the holes you needed to get them out safely, or make sure that the lemmings dropped gently to the ground.

With over 290 levels all built in to this game, you'll have hours, even days of fun as you try your luck at savings all of the lemmings from certain death.  The game received rave reviews when it came out for the Amiga system, and as a homebrew release, it is amongst those that offer a complete game, with beautiful graphics and a sound score that will have you engulfed in the game itself. 

The original Lemmings game didn't have 296 levels of course.  What these crafty developers have done is combine all of the best selling lemmings games and put them into one DS homebrew package for you to enjoy.  The game includes all 100 levels from the original Lemmings game for the amiga, All 100 levels from the Amiga version of Oh-No! More Lemmings as well as well as all 72 levels from Xmas Lemmings releases which came out in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994.  For those of you lucky enough to play this on the Amiga, you'll have a fantastic time replaying this game again.
