Eureka Stockade Timeline
1851
· June: Gold was discovered at Clunes near Ballarat.
· August: Gold was soon discovered at Ballarat.
· September: Gold license are introduced to the Ballarat goldfields.
1852
· August: Eureka lead is discovered.
1854
· May: Chief Rede takes charge of the Ballarat goldfields.
· October 9: Miner James Scobi was murdered outside the James Bentley’s Eureka Hotel.
· October 12: Bentley was found to be the murderer of James Scobi.
· November 11: The miners had met on Bakery hill, and had accepted the Ballarat Reform League’s Proposals for reform.
· November 28: The miners pulled an attack on the troop reinforcements, and the drummer boy is killed.
· November 28: The miners meet again at the Bakery hill and the Eureka flag is raised. Peter Lalor had led the meeting and all the miners then burnt their licenses.
· November 30 – December 1: The miners build a stockade at Eureka lead.
· December 3: Government send his forces to attack the Stockade.
· December 4: Dead miners and soldiers are buried in a pit.
· December 5: Martial law is established.
1855
· January 23: The miners’ trial on a charge of treason begins in Melbourne.
· March 27: The Royal Commission’s report is made. Miners’ rights and other important reforms are introduced.
