With only seconds separating the GC contenders after stage 1, Stuart was faced with a 15second time difference to the leader after the 15km ITT. In stage 3 after having broken away with two other GC contenders, Stuart was pondering his options including asking himself “who’s ya nemisis?”

“I recalled the efficient evaporative effect of my Nemisis kit coupling with the elegant Euro-style trim to create a perfect amalgam of form and function. Armed with the confidence that my rivals battled the heat in inferior garments I was free to overcome my Nemisis.”

In a tenacious attack at the base of Mt Hotham, Stuart soloed to the summit 30 seconds ahead of the GC leader – it was enough to claim GC victory!

Crocodile Trophy

Taigh Banson wins first Australian rider at Crocodile Trophy.

The Crocodile Trophy is the worlds hardest, longest, hottest and most adventurous MTB race in the world. It starts in Cairns and 10 days, 1200km and 12,000m of climbing, finishes on the beach of Cape Tribulation, Cooktown, QLD.

Riding for the Fraser & Mountain team, Taigh mixed it with the best in the world to finish 9th overall and first Australian.

Nemisis Team Sets New 7 Peaks Record

Andy van Bergen, Shane van Seters, John van Seters have set a new record of riding up Victoria’s 7 Peaks in 34 hours, 49 minutes, and 33 seconds!  The climbs comprise of Victoria’s 7 ski resorts: Baw Baw, Lake Mountain, Buller, Buffalo, Hotham, Dinner Plain from Omeo, and Falls Creek.

Staring down the barrel of an ascent of the hors category Baw Baw  - starting from the gatehouse, on cold legs, at 7am, in 3 degrees was a daunting prospect. But the build up of adrenaline, and months of training saw us tear up the climb – and two of us actually even managed to set a new PB.  It was then over to Marysville for an easy (in comparison) ride up Lake Mountain. The highlight was checking Shane’s heart rate readout of 191bpm when he almost lost it on a corner during the flying descent! From there it was over to the ‘rider’s mountain’: Mt Buller. Aside from a pretty hot pace, and our traditional finish at the top of the 22% gradient road to the Arlberg the ride was without incident – and the descent made any suffering quickly evaporate.

Wanting to make the most of the day – we shot across to the gatehouse at Buffalo – for a car-lit run in the dark. Finishing at the top just after 11pm, we were asleep in the car before it even rolled out of the carpark. An early start, and an easy roll out of bed and onto the first climb for the day (and already the fifth for the weekend!), Falls Creek. The legs were screaming murder for the first few kms, but we soon hit our rhythm. From the top of Falls we were picked up by our support crew – and driven over to Omeo. By now the temp was up around the 31-32 degree mark, so the exposed climb up to Dinner Plain had everyone hurting. A drive down over Hotham to Harrietville, a quick feed – and we were on our way for the final climb of the weekend. Those pinches on Hotham have never been as cruel, but the finish line was looming, and a combination of carbo shots and adrenaline kept the legs turning. Finally we rolled through the tunnel, 34 hours, 49 minutes, and 33 seconds after leaving the gatehouse at Baw Baw.

Nemisis Marathon Challenge

Nemisis Marathon Challenge, incorporating the Australian Marathon Mountain Bike Championships was a huge success. Nemisis Athletic Apparel team rider Vanessa Frazer won the Open Womens category.  Tasmanian Ben Mather took the overall win with an unlucky Peter Hatton finishing 2nd after puncturing on the final descent. 2006 World 24hr Solo champion Craig Gordon came in third.

A post race survey confirmed the Nemisis Marathon Challenge as being Australia’s hardest marathon.

Australian Masters Track Championships

Nemisis Athletic Apparel - SportsMyo team rider Carl Cubitt wins Gold at the Australian Masters Track Championships.  Cubitt averaged 54.04km/h in the 1000m time trial to record a winning time of 1:06.6 minutes.  At the presentation, Cubitt attributed SportsMyo to his success.

Nemisis Challenge

Just Cycle Yarra Valley 120km Nemisis Challenge up Mount Donna Buang was won by Paul Wilson in a time of 01:03:27, with former Olympic Rowing Champion, Drew Ginn finishing in a time of 01:08:01.

An initiative of Jesuit Social Services, Just Cycle Yarra Valley will raise awareness and funds for an organisation that works with some of the most disadvantaged and at-risk people, families and communities.

The event features two courses – a NAB 45km recreational ride highlighting the picturesque Yarra Valley and a 120km Nemisis endurance ride featuring the challenge of Mount Donna Buang. More than just another recreational ride, Just Cycle Yarra Valley offers a complete entertainment experience for cycling enthusiasts, friends and family with a day of fun activities and live music amongst the vines of Yarra Valley’s Rochford Wines.

Australia Day Madison

Nemisis Athletic Apparel team consisting of Adrian Hanson and Tom Leeper win Australia Day Maddison.  In a competitive field Hanson (one of a few riders having beaten Robbie McEwan in a sprint) and former Giro d’Italia rider Tom Leeper stamped their authority by taking an early lap on the field.  The duo covered all other moves with Hanson showing his quality sprint form by taking out the final sprint and impressing the crowd with his well practiced two arm salute!

Wangaratta Track Racing

Nemisis Athletic Apparel team rider Adrian Hanson wins Sid Patterson Aces Scratch race at Wangaratta. He won by so much he had time for 30m laid-back two arm salute – plenty of time for the photographer to grab the photo!

Hell of the West

Nemisis-in2sport rider Steph McGrath has claimed a big win at the “Hell of the West” on the infamous “Wall” at Mt Wallace.  The 66km handicap event is a major race on the Northern Club Combine calendar, and is the final road event for the season.  The race finale is contested up the gruelling “Wall”, a 1.3km climb at over 11% grade. 

Melbourne to Warrnambool

A 7-man team toed the start line at the 265km Melbourne to Warrnambool in a massive field of over 200 riders.  Joining the successful team from Goulburn to Citi were strong men Mark Hewat (Footscray 3 Day Tour champion), and Jason Costin, plus young up-and-comer Cam Stewart who recently returned from racing the Tour of New Caledonia. 

A 20-man break escaped the peloton quickly, although the main field showed little interest in chasing.  By the 80km mark, the gap had opened to more than 12 minutes, and it looked as though the rest of the field were racing for pride alone.  Misfortune struck the Nemisis-Sea Shepherd team early, however, with Simon Knowles crashing in the first 100km, and Cam Stewart suffering the effects of a stomach bug.  Both riders withdrew at 150km. 

It was at that point that the chase in the main field lit up as former National Champion and In2Sport pupil, Darren Lapthorne, and his Rapha Condor teammate Kristian House hit the bunch hard, splitting the field through the feed station at Lismore. 

Unfortunately Deery, Sietsma, Hewat and Costin were all caught behind the split as they negotiated the mayhem of the feed zone.  Stuart Morgan was fortunate enough to survive the split, although the impetus of lead chase bunch subsided when the gap to the break remained over 10 minutes at the 200km mark.

World Track Masters

Nemisis Athletic Apparel / SportsMyo team rider, Carl Cubitt wins two Bronze medals at the UCI Track Masters.  Cubitt averaged 53.54km/h to finish the 1000m time trial in 1.07.2 minutes.  In the sprint event, he qualified third fastest with a 200m time of 11.3 seconds. After winning through to the semi finals he was beaten by eventual winner Gavin White to take another Bronze medal.

Goulburn To Sydney

Nemisis team contests Goulburn to Sydney with Steve Robb finishing 11th in the hotly contested Goulburn to Citi classic over an undulating 170km course. It was a promising result for the Nemisis-Sea Shepherd team and they claimed 7th place on the teams classification in a field that included all of Australia’s strong Continental Professional teams.
