About the Practitioner

Nicole Jacobsen studied her holistic counselling at the Melbourne College of Natural Medicine during 2002 and 2003. During this time she became a volunteer mentor to young people at Heatherwood School, a high school for people with a mild intellectual disability. This resulted in an employment opportunity as a teachers assistant and she worked there for five years in a variety of roles. These included coach of the boys B basketball team, outdoor education assistant, literacy assistant and many work and social related programs throughout the school. She was also a lifeline volunteer for 5 years and worked as a paid employee for the Suicide Helpline on a 6 month contract before the lifeline branch closed down.

She began studying massage part time at the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy (Heidelberg) in 2007 whilst still working full time at Heatherwood. She resigned from Heatherwood in August 2008 to begin working at the Daylesford Day Spa. She continues to work there doing a variety of massages, body treatments, facials and hand and foot treatments. In August 2009 she returned to the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy to study remedial massage full time. She has successfully completed the core components of the course but needs to do a 5 day lymphatic drainage course in July to gain her full remedial qualification. In November 2008 she completed her 3rd reiki training at Open Hands Holistic Living and Learning Centre to become a reiki master.

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage generally focuses on the whole body to help release the stress and tension that we hold. It can include back, neck, shoulders, legs, feet, arms, hands, chest, stomach, face and scalp. During my relaxation massage I try to include the main body parts but feel it is important to tailor the massage to suit the individual needs. Before commencing my massage I will negotiate a massage with you to cater for what you feel your body requires on the day.

Deep Tissue Massage

The deep tissue massage generally focuses on a specific or a couple of specific areas of the body that are causing restriction or pain. I will spend longer on these specific areas so I am able to work on a deeper level to release the cause of the problem. Techniques I use include: myofascial release, trigger points, joint mobilisation, vaccuum cupping, transverse friction, DIP (digital ishaemic pressure), pumping, stretching, muscle energy technique and clinical assessment.

Reiki

Reiki is an ancient universal energy that works to heal the body on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. It is a very gentle energy that will create a peaceful and relaxing state for those that receive it. The reiki healing is conducted whilst you are fully clothed and involves hand placements around the body in which energy will be transmitted.

Holistic Counselling

Holistic counselling is a style of counselling that looks at the whole picture. It is aimed at empowering you to make choices and live in a way that is truly right for you. During the sessions we will create a safe place to talk from the heart and discover what you need to create happiness and balance in your life. Sessions are tailored to the individual and will focus on what is needed at the time.
