SOMEWHAT OF A PHENOMENON
Steve Wiley, of LongDrivers.com was kind enough to let us have a look at the development stages of the new Adams Golf 9015D & 9016D drivers. The New Prototype Drivers from Adams Golf have become somewhat of a phenomenon on the PGA Tour. In the short time since its reveal both Rory Sabbatini and Charles Howell III have put it in play. And the design and performance of the 9015D & 9016D Drivers also got the attention of the industry’s authority on distance, the “Long Drivers of America”. So much so that a partnership between the two was formed. The Adams Insight XTD 9015D & 9016D are now the Official Driver of Long Drivers of America, which includes the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship and the Exceptional Driver Championship.
NOT JUST FOR THE LONG DRIVE GUY THOUGH
Don’t think that just because you can’t hit the ball over 300 yards on a regular basis that these drivers are not for you though. They developed two separate models to fit almost all golfers needs. The 9015D was developed for the everyday golfer seeking extra distance off the tee, and boy does it deliver. The 9016D has been designed specifically with the long drivers in mind. This head caters to golfers with swing speeds over 120+ MPH.
THE “SPY GUYS” REVIEW
What We Liked:
As soon as we got ours to test out we could tell that the designers of the new driver were on the right track. It’s a great mix of modern technology and old school lines, the ones we were more accustomed to seeing in the past. And as soon as I hit my first ball with the 9015D it instantly took me back 5 years, almost like a song can do. It has been a long time since I have hit a driver that not only felt this solid but also sounded this complete. Distance was great, the ball takes off like a rocket off the face. The spin rate was very low on ours, but these heads are designed for that. Accuracy was about average but that is partly do to the fact the the head sits slightly open which takes a little while to get used to when 95% of heads nowadays are closed.
What We Didn’t Like:
Quality of the head seems great but the paint fill and overall paint job on the head looks like they had it done on the quick. If not then someone might have been out of work the day they inspected the heads. There is some second tier over spray and some of the paint fill has fallen out of the lettering after only one day at the range. I am fairly certain though that if this head becomes a staple for Adams Golf next year that this problem would be fixed so not to worry.
Overall:
Adams really seems to be on the right path, this is honestly one of the best drivers I have hit this year and I can see why some of the tour players are giving it a chance. Although, if your swing speed is under 100 MPH or if you play a fade you might not want to run out so quickly to replace that closed square head you have. This one might not be the answer for you. But if you play a couple times a week and you swing over 100-120+ MPH and you play a draw the Adams Golf 9015D or 9016D just might be your next stick.
Be on the look our for a lot more from Adams Golf in the next coming weeks at MYGOLFSPY, they are putting out prototypes as fast as people change the weights in their TaylorMade drivers. What? You don’t change yours…LOL.
