Gameplay is hard, boring and quite crappy. But the music is good!

This is a C64 conversion of the arcade game Gladiator.

This is a very fun game. The graphics are smooth, with superb big sprites. The music is great. Game-play is awesome and this keeps you awake for many nights !!!

In comparison to other coin-ops (such as Rush N Attack), this one featured extremely huge characters that looked amazingly realistic. I also liked the idea of having to operate simulatenously a weapon and a shield. Furthermore, your armour came off in separate pieces after a hit, not, as in Ghosts N Goblins, all at once, which is something I would call an interactive continue. Anyhow, this C64 conversion is not too bad. The sprites are big, if poorly animated. The ever reliable Mark Cooksey presents a nice tune. Yet without the blazing colours of the arcade original, you begin to realise how bland and repetitive Great Curianos is. The levels hardly differ graphically and your character is forced to keep moving to the right, whether you like it or not. On the AMIGA, Discovery Softward released Sword of Sodan, which impressed players with equally huge characters, digitised sounds and, on top of that, more varied gameplay.
