Building an Alter
Do these stones build an Alter or a tower? Does it represent a meeting place for me & God, Or a man made device; a trick, attempting self-note? Uncut stones, in primal form, are only good enough for this structure. Our monuments require the work of man all over them, laboriously fitting them in place so the generations can marvel. An alter can collapse in a lifetime or less. Only devotion holds the rocks together. As the back muscles strain they resemble the living stones that take time & care to find the right place that fits, and anchors one to another. They must not be chiseled, for their form is carved by Him whom the alter is all about. In respect we bear them into place, in their original form, relying on Him who made them, to transform them if He will. This is a God-Place, where we’d best keep our perspective clear from our enterprises.
