ABN - Australian Business Number

The Australian Business Number (ABN) provides a single identifier when dealing with the tax office or other government departments and agencies.

You will need an ABN if:

You are a company registered under Corporations Law in Australia or a business entity carrying on an enterprise in Australia AND

BAS - Business Activity Statement

Businesses use activity statements to pay and report various tax obligations, including FBT instalments, PAYG (instalments and withholding), GST, and related tax obligations. They also use activity statements to pay deferred company and superannuation fund instalments. Individuals use activity statements to pay quarterly PAYG instalments.

Lodgement of your Business Activity Statement (BAS) is required by law. It has to be lodged to the ATO monthly or quarterly depending on your annual turnover.
