We were contacted by a couple who had been breeding miniature ponies, but were not spending much time at their farm property and needed to get rid of all of their stock. We went to their property to have a look. They only had four ponies left; 2 fillies, 1 colt and an older mare. It was really hard to choose who to take with us, as we could only fit two in our float. We ended up choosing Scout, the older mare and Tonka, the colt.
Tonka’s story was a sad one. When he was around 3 months old a group of the mini’s escaped from the paddock they were in, one of whom was his mother. He was separated from her and never reunited. It is unknown what happened to his Mamma or the other horses, but the impact on Tonka was clear. He showed signs of being undernourished with his big Somali belly and his lack of muscle development.
We chose Scout because she was a calming influence on Tonka (and a real spunk to boot!).
Now happily settled at Harmony Reins, Scout and Tonka are great companions. Scout is a typical mare and likes to be in charge of all the boys! Tonka is mischievous and like most miniature ponies is very nosy and interested in everything you are doing.
