Flooding in St Mary

Published:Saturday | November 10, 2012 | 6:09 PM

There was major flooding in the St Mary capital of Port Maria this afternoon.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management says the community of Oracabessa and sections of Junction in the vicinity of Georgia have also been affected.

ODPEM says the rain was produced by the stationary front currently affecting the island.

ODPEM says emergency response agencies have been alerted and are currently reporting to the areas.

Meanwhile, persons in flood prone areas are reminded to:

1. Be ready to evacuate.

2. Decide on likely evacuation routes now.

3. Avoid flooded waterways, i.e. fords, gullies, streams or rivers,

either on foot or in vehicles.

The ODPEM will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as

events warrant.
