How to Use FILExt
If you have a file that you can't open, FILExt will help you out. So far, we have been able to help more than 50 million users analyze and open files. First, try to view the desired file with the tools supplied with your operating system. We'll show you how to do this on our website. If this doesn't work, you can also view any file online. Our innovative upload function protects your devices against file viruses, saves data volumes, and preserves your privacy because the file is displayed in a secure sandbox environment right in your browser.
When you click on a file type that Windows does not know how to open, a dialog appears asking "How do you want to open this file?" in Windows 10 or "Windows can't open this file" in other operating systems. If possible, note carefully the full name of the file you clicked on. In particular, make a note of the characters that follow after the last period in the file name.
Start your browser and search for the file extension at FILExt. You will find programs that can open files with this extension. A file extension is nothing more than the last characters after the period in the name of a file (those characters you noted above).
To use the FILExt site to search for information
- You can view any file with our Online File Viewer. Simply drag the file onto the area provided for this purpose. We will then analyze the correct file format for you and show you the file online.
- Alternatively, you can enter the file extension into the search box at the top right of each page and click on the Search button. If the extension is in the FILExt database a page will appear with all of the information FILExt has about the extension in question.
Thank you and good luck.
