BRADMAN CHALLENGE MATCH REPORT
Bowral April 18, 2009
The conclusion of another successful season was marked with the annual Bradman Challenge match played on the picturesque Bradman Oval at Bowral. On Saturday April 18 our U/16 boys don their whites for the final time this season on a glorious sunny autumn day.
The match is a reward for our U/16 players who are in their final years of junior cricket and is played using the introductory format thus giving all the players the opportunity to maximise their experience.
The two teams were captained by Ben Dwarshuis and Jordan Dow, and coached by Robbie Knight and Wade Horsnell. The match was very competitive but played in good spirit with the Benny Blasters scoring 278 runs at an average of 15.44 defeating the Dow Destroyers 284 runs at an average of 12.90.
The boys also had the opportunity to tour the Bradman Museum in the luncheon break and were commended by the Museum personnel on their excellent behaviour. Hopefully all the boys will have fond memories of the day they played on the oval named after, and graced by Australia’s greatest sportsman, Don Bradman.
The match was well supported by club members including several families from our U/10s teams who travelled the distance to enjoy the match and the atmosphere.
In the evening the players and their families joined the Club’s officials back in Engadine to celebrate the day at the Engadine Palace Chinese Restaurant. At an informal presentation Scott Boyton and James Loughran were awarded the man of the match awards for their respective sides.
Many thanks must go to our official umpire Kevin Bryan and to Craig Rice, Steve Jones, Harry Robbins & David Reynolds for organising the day.
