When it comes to delivering professional horse training services in the Hunter, there are few more trusted names than David Atkins.

From a young age, David was raised riding track work for his father Darrell.  He went on to become a jockey, but when weight got the better of him, he followed in Darrell’s footsteps and made the natural progression to training.

Then when David took over the training of talented sprinter Moss Rocket, many more milestones were reached. At 21 David won the Moonee Valley Cup with Reckless Tradition and with the same horse ran 7th in the Melbourne Cup of 1986. This made him the youngest trainer ever to have a runner in The Cup and the youngest trainer to win a Stakes race at Randwick.

David won a Newcastle Trainers Premiership in 2004 with a small team of just 16 horses, beating larger and more dominant stables for the title.  This great achievement was attributed to David’s dedication and his ability to develop horses to reach their full potential by giving each horse the individual time and attention required.

David is very hands on and actively attending to the horses himself daily
