Client On-location Session ~ Charge the Great Dane on the Gold Coast

A couple of months ago I ran a Facebook photo competition. Emma entered her Great Dane, Charge, and racked up a very respectable number of votes against some very stiff competition to end up coming seventh. The winner of the comp, Honey the Great Dane, donated her prize (which was a free on-location photo session with me) to Great Dane Rescue to be raffled off. In a strange twist of fate, Emma ended up winning the raffle, resulting in a free session after all!

We scheduled the session for one of my favourite places to shoot – the Spit on the Gold Coast. There’s a fantastic off-lead dog beach there and it really is a beautiful place.

At two years old, Charge is probably the shiniest black Dane I have ever seen. His coat just glistens! Much like the incredible blingy collar that he wears.

His ears fold and stick out just the way my Luna’s do.

Charge obviously loves the beach – he attends the “Danes at the beach” meet ups where this beach is overrun by Danes – it’s certainly a sight to see! He was the only one there on the day of our session though, which is lucky as I’m not sure we would have been able to keep him up on the dunes otherwise.

As Charge is a pretty active dog and we were in such an exciting place for him, we let him let off some steam running on the beach. Oh and did I mention he has an incredibly long tongue?

I love this shot with the buildings of Surfers Paradise in the background.

We had a bit more quiet time next.

While Charge showed me just how shiny he can be, in the last of the afternoon sunshine.

He also gave me a recap on his tongue length. Yep, still verrry long, worn either up or down!

I usually take a selection of little toys along to photo sessions, as sometimes there’ll be something I have that takes their interest. I brought out a little mini squeaky toy and Charge absolutely loved it! It was so funny to watch him bury it and then dig it up and shake it, only to stomp on it and bury it again…

I was keeping a close watch on the sunset, waiting for the moment just before it touched the horizon…

The clear sky created perfect conditions for silhouette photos! Being jet black and quite large, Charge is also the perfect silhouette photo model. Needless to say, I took at LOT of these and I love all of them!

What a great session! It was such a perfect afternoon and a big thanks to Emma and Charge for coming all the way down from northern Brisbane for it. It was definitely worth it!
