WWE Survivor Series 2012 main event changed: CM Punk defends title against Ryback and John Cena

WWE Survivor Series has a new main event for Nov. 18 in Indianapolis, as CM Punk will defend the WWE championship against Ryback and John Cena in a triple threat match.

Plans change in WWE, nearly by the second.

Just last week, the promotion announced the main event of the Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV) taking place on Sun., Nov. 18, 2012, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, would feature a traditional five-on-five elimination style match featuring Team CM Punk taking on Team Mick Foley.

Not anymore.

That's because WWE Chairman of the Board Vince McMahon called an audible on tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw, declaring it silly that Punk would get to hide behind team members instead of facing the wrath of the two men who most recently contested for the title but found their matches reach less than satisfactory conclusions.

I'm talking, of course, about Ryback and John Cena.

Ryback was screwed over by Brad Maddox at Hell in a Cell and Cena pinned Punk at Night of Champions but both men had their shoulders down, so it was declared a draw.

Now, all three will hook up for a triple threat match. Sound good to you?

There's no word on what will be happening with the traditional Survivor Series match that was planned between Punk and Foley's respective teams. At the start of Raw, The Miz quit Team Punk to be replaced by Wade Barrett, as recruited by Paul Heyman. None of that makes sense if the plan was to change the main event and ditch the match altogether.

Stay tuned.

Here's the updated Survivor Series match card:

- CM Punk vs. Ryback vs. John Cena
- Big Show vs. Sheamus
