About Me

I believe in love. For lots of reasons. I believe it needs to be celebrated, recognised, and honoured as I feel it makes the world a better place. It makes us better as people.

My life is a balancing act of working part time in a hospital with a great team of people, sharing my life with my awesome partner and our 6 kids and celebrating life in all its beauty, by being a part of weddings, love and celebrating those who are no longer with us, or those who have just joined us. Life is to be celebrated!

My chosen career path to become an Authorised Marriage Celebrant kinda came around by accident. I was asked to do a vow renewal for a very close friend of 38 years. I did it, had some amazing feedback and was encouraged to look at making a career change to become a Marriage Celebrant. It feels like a natural fit. I love people. I see joy in everyday moments. Being a part of special moments in time is a privilege and a gift.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to book a celebrant?

There are many people involved in a wedding day and your celebrant is one of the most important. When you have confirmed your date and venue then book your celebrant at the same time. This will ensure that you have the right person for the role.

My role is the make sure that you are legally married according to the Marriage Act 1961.

I will also lodge all the legal paperwork within the timeframe required.

Each ceremony will be unique and personal, as you are.

What documents does your celebrant need from both parties?

Each of you must provide evidence of your date of birth, name, and birthplace. This will need to be in the form of your birth certificate and a current passport or driver’s licence. It may also be an official photo form of identification.

If either party has been previously married and this has ended in divorce, the divorce certificate must be provided.

If your former spouse has died, then the death certificate will need to be provided.

How long will the ceremony run for?

It can vary… if your ceremony is a “legals only” ceremony it will be around 10 minutes. Most ceremonies are 20-30 minutes, including the rituals and signing of the legal paperwork.

What are the legal requirements to be married in Australia?

  • Not be married to someone else
  • Both parties to the marriage must be at least 18 years old (unless a court has approved a marriage where one party is aged between 16 and 18 years old but under no circumstances can 2 persons under 18 years old marry each other)
  • Not be closely related to each other (not be a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild or sibling)
  • Understand what marriage means and freely consent to marrying
  • Use specific words during the ceremony
  • Give written notice of their intention to marry to the Celebrant within the required time frame (no less than one month before the wedding and no more than 18 months before)

Do you need a rehearsal?

Yes. This helps to iron out any little crinkles along the way and it will ensure that your ceremony runs smoothly on your wedding day. This should take place around the week before your wedding date, with all bridal party members and significant family members in attendance.

We run through who needs to stand where, the order of the ceremony and what is required from your attendants on the day. It is also a good opportunity to use the PA and get a feel for how things will sound.

The rehearsal allows you to see how things look and feel and make sure that everything is as you want it to be during the “real deal”! A great way to work through any jitters.
