CULTURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Nearly Three Decades of Experience

CRM was founded by Wendy Thorp in 1980. Wendy is an expert in historical archaeology responsible for several of the innovations in its practice as well as some of the most significant archaeological projects undertaken in Australia. She has a particular interest in the archaeology of urban life.  She has been a member of the Interpretation Committee to the Heritage Council of NSW (2003) and served as Deputy Chair of the Archaeological Advisory Panel to the Heritage Council of NSW (2005-2006).

How We Work

CRM is a small, specialised team investing our resources in a limited number of projects at a time. This “boutique”  approach ensures practical, cost-effective and quick responses to each project drawing from our depth of accumulated knowledge and experience. We are acknowledged leaders in historical archaeological management and application and provide highly experienced services in a wide range of heritage resource applications.

Who Are We?

CRM is led by Wendy Thorp and has a small but highly experienced core group. In addition, when a project requires it, we sub-contract to several specialists that we have worked with over many years. These include experts in pollen, soils, entomology and plant identification.

Who Employs Us?

CRM has undertaken work for all levels of government, State, Federal and Local. We have provided input for projects required by statutory authorities and organizations such as the RTA and Telstra, the Department of Planning and the Australian Defence Force. Much of our work is undertaken as part of project teams for redevelopment and our clients have included some of the largest development companies in Australia. We also carry out work for private owners of heritage properties.

The Australian Museum, Sydney

After completing and archaeological assessment CRM is now involved in the development of a new wing behind the College Street buildings. We are monitoring and recording archaeological information over several months of excavations.

Cavenah Way, Residential Development Kellyville

CRM is managing both historic and indigenous archaeological investigations on this site including test excavation and monitoring.

732 Harris Street Ultimo

Having completed a site salvage excavation here and uncovering a state significant relic of the Ultimo Estate CRM is now preparing the final report and collaborating on the interpretation installation for the final development.

150 Marsden Street Parramatta

Having undertaken a site salvage excavation of this new development in 2006 CRM is now preparing the final excavation report for the site.
