Installing DF HACK
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:06:38 pm »

after searching these forums and google I have yet to find an idiot's guide to installing DF hack. so humor me, and speak slow.

I have successfully downloaded and installed cmake and mingw.

according to the windows install instructions found here http://github.com/peterix/dfhack/blob/master/COMPILE

Quote
"You'll have to add C:\MinGW\ to your PATH variable."
where the %^#$ is the path variable. and how exactly am I setting up cmake.
Quote
"open up cmd and navigate to the dfhack\build folder"
the version of DF hack I downloaded dosn't have a build folder, maybe just the dfhack folder itself?

I am using the latest version of DF 2010 any help would be great, and stop further questions from other people installing this utility.

They told me I was daft for building a Fort on an Aquifer, but I built it all the same, just to show em'.
It flooded then caved in.
So I built a second one; that one caught fire, was besieged by orcs, and then flooded and caved in.
but the third one... stayed up! and now you can do the same! good luck to ye!

You should probably post this in the modding section.  With that said, are you just wanting to use the dfhack utilities?  If that is the case, you shouldn't need to build it yourself.  You should be able to use the pre-compiled binaries.

Yeah you are doing WAY more work than you need to :)

Just get the binaries and run the appropriate one when you want to use a feature that you need.  For example, when you want stuff revealed, run dfreveal.
