Default New GS deluxe case

Taylor finally started making the GS Deluxe case in the same plant as the rest of their fine deluxe cases. I am excited!!!! It seems trivial but I have been awaiting a Taylor made case to go with my GS sized Taylor's for three years now.

The new cases have a nice pinkish red lining. Sorta reminds me of the pink poodle days. Has nice headstock holder to stop it form wiggling around.

Here is picture from sweetwater. I have one on the way from Taylor and will take some better pictures when it gets here, and will do a comparison. Some of us long time GS owners have been waiting for the deluxe case to be integrated with the other Taylor made cases in Mexico for some time. (or it might just be me ;D )

This is a really good way for Taylor to go, IMO. The faux alligator case is pretty, but the tolex is worthless and as a whole, the deluxe case is better. Did you just outright buy this case for your GS or will it come new with a new guitar?

They sell it at sweetwater, and probably other places as well.

Glad to hear that after 3 years you're finally getting what you want! Where was the GS case made before?

Pretty sure my 2012 716CE came with one... How do I tell the difference?

The old GS case is lighter brown, has a faux alligator tolex, and a brown lining. It looks like this:

Both the standard and deluxe cases were made in China. I am guessing the standard cases that come with the 400 and below guitars are still made in China.

When Taylor introduced the GS they did not invest in the tooling to make the cases, and instead contracted out the job to a company in China that makes very nice looking case, but that lacks the fit that Taylor's deluxe cases offer. I would assume they did this because had the GS not been a popular shape it would have been a waste of money on the case tooling.

BT educated me about how much effort, and money it takes to make a case both in labor and equipment. It makes me happy that the GS has been successful enough that the Taylor is now able to tool and make the cases for this fine shape.

I think this is what I got with mine. It is brown on the inside, rather than pink. So these are made in China? I actually prefer the brown ones to the red one that my 714CE has.

Also, as far as I'm aware... The reaction on the UTGF has been the opposite, that they feel like Taylor is 'downgrading' to 'cheaper' cases and that the Alligator ones were considered to be better. I think it was also mentioned in the letters page of the recent issue of W&S.

There were two revisions of the brown alligator cases, the first with a lock and the second one without. Most folks prefered the first version with the lock.

The new cases are true deluxe cases that actually fit the GS shape. I have both of the brown cases, and the new Taylor made deluxe GS case. The only case my GS truly fits in is the Taylor made deluxe GS case. It is not quite as "pretty" as the gator case, but my guitar fits in it like a glove and does not move around. The problem with the gator skin cases where that they were not made to fit the GS precisely, so the guitar would move around a fair amount in the case which of course is not the best thing.

I will take a form fitted case, over nice gator looking pleather any day. I prefer my BTO be as protected as possible when in its case, as opposed to the appearance.

Jeez...now I am going to have to go home and check this out. My GS is an '06, so it has one of the first model cases with the lock. I don't really have any complaints about the case and thought that it fit the guitar quite well, but now I am curious. One thing I really like about the old case is the added headstock support built into it. Does the new deluxe case have that?

I probably shouldn't sweat this one really since I typically use a modified TRIC case to house my GS (I really like being able to stap it on my back and go)!

Your case is fine. They are all good, just good in different ways. It is really just awsome that the GS shape has gained enough market acceptance that Taylor considers it a permanent shape, and has tooled and started building the cases for it.

Or that it's just simply cheaper to build it from their Mexico plant without outsourcing and giving part of the profits to a Chinese company. I think the GS is their worst selling shape, although they've made it a permanent shape for some models which you can't get in other shapes in order to try and push it (e.g. LTDs, Baritones, 12-strings).

Where are you getting your evidence the GS is Taylor's worst selling shape?
