Pound Animals

SAVE A POUND DEATH ROW ANIMAL:

100_1348.jpgTragically all around Australia many lovely healthy but unwanted and dumped companion animals end up at local council pounds every week through no fault of their own, victims of massive pet overpopulation in a country without breeding laws and a heartless public that continues to off load their unwanted pets at pounds and shelters, where tens of thousands die unwanted and unheard each year.

ARRG rescues many unclaimed animals from death row every week from our local pounds, space permitting but sadly it’s never enough and many lovely companion animals are left behind and killed each week.

CAN YOU SAVE A POUND ANIMAL AND HOW CAN YOU DO THIS?

In the Northern Rivers region you can contact:
LISMORE pound by calling council on 02 6625 0500 and view by appointment with ranger
CASINO pound by calling council on 02 6660 0300 or 6660 0290 view anytime in business hours
BALLINA pound by calling council on 02 66 864444 view by appointment with ranger
KYOGLE pound by calling council on 02 66 321611 view by appointment with ranger

ARRG works with these council pounds and have agreed to extend our rehoming program for animals viewed and chosen from these pounds. To proceed notify the council and then call ARRG and tell us the pen number and/or details of the chosen animal and adopt through ARRG’s adoption program:

Dogs $250.00 that includes 1st vaccination, worming, desexing and microchipping.
Cats $180.00 that includes 1st vaccination, worming, desexing and microchipping.

All animals must be desexed and microchipped when adopted from or via ARRG’s program.

Other pounds on the Far North Coast are Grafton council, Tweed Heads council, Lower Clarence council.
Most council operate a pound so contact your local council and enquire about saving a pound animal.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: COMPANION ANIMAL ACT NSW LAW AND THE POUND:

ANIMALS FOUND wandering either taken to a pound or picked up by council must be held for a period of:
7 days only without a microchip identification and if unclaimed in this period will be available for adoption or will be killed, holding time for possible adoption depends on the individual council.

14 days if microchipped and council must take action to contact the owner by phone or mail, costs for collection apply. If the owner can’t be contacted eg: they have moved and data is incorrect, after 14 days will be available for adoption or will be killed, holding time for possible adoption depends on the individual council.

OWNED UNWANTED ANIMAL SURRENDERED TO A POUND (not all councils accept unwanted pets, this again depends on the individual council policy).

Surrendered pets have no legal time protection and can be killed immediately to save space or could be available for adoption depending if council will hold them.

Over 2 million dollars of taxpayer’s money is spent annually to kill healthy but unwanted pet in Australia! Wouldn’t you rather see your money spent on desexing programs to stop the killing?
