Literacy Packs

One of the many challenges faced by ALNF when implementing literacy programs in marginalised communities is the lack of basic literacy resources available to students. This presents a significant barrier in helping these children develop the necessary literacy skills required of them to actively participate in their learning environment.

The Literacy Pack initiative augments ALNF’s current projects and programs by providing young people with the necessary resources required, yet not often available, to encourage successful home/school learning environments. This initiative has also proven to foster higher levels of student, parental and community engagement in the literacy learning process.

“The donation of the literacy packs were a valuable resource utilised in our planned work with vulnerable families and have helped reinforce the work we have done to promote literacy for all children.” Area Manager, Brighter Futures Southern Sydney.

These packs are sourced, assembled and distributed to targeted communities across Australia, including Tennant Creek, Palm Island, Groote Eylandt and Kempsey. Literacy Packs are available for preschool, primary school and high school students and include a Share-A-Book and age-appropriate literacy resources, such as plasticine for kinaesthetic and fine motor skill development for pre-schoolers and/or dictionaries for high school students, all packaged in a fun, brightly coloured and re-useable satchel bag.
